Internship Experience at the Digital Amoeba Program of PT Telkom

Indonesia

Introduction
The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is one of the
programs initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture. The aim of this program
is equipping students to face rapid social, cultural, work, and technological changes.
This is manifested because student competencies need to be prepared to align more
closely with the needs of the times. Internship programs are highly favored by
students in Kampus Merdeka, because internships provide students with the
opportunity to directly engage in a work environment. Through this program,
students can practically apply the theories they have learned in their lectures.
Additionally, internships are also seen as an opportunity to enhance skills and gain
real-world work experience for future career preparation.

I participated in an internship as a User Experience Researcher at the Digital

Amoeba Program of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, which is Telkom's
innovation laboratory program aimed at developing digital talent by encouraging all
company employees to adopt innovation as the basis for their thinking and daily
work. Additionally, I had the opportunity to learn as a User Experience Researcher,
which is relevant to my field of study, Information Systems. By interning at the Digital
Amoeba Program of PT Telkom Indonesia, I hoped to gain knowledge related to
software development, specifically in the field of user experience research.

The scope of activities carried out by the User Experience Researcher team is
within the Amavisual division. The Amavisual division consists of several roles,
including User Experience Research (UXR), User Interface Design (UID), and Junior
Graphic Design (JGD). UX Research is responsible for systematically gathering
in-depth data and information about user needs, analyzing research results, and
collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers to create products
that meet user requirements.

Description of the Project

The MBKM program's Digital Amoeba project at PT Telkom Indonesia focuses
on various key initiatives, one of which is the Adjustment Ideabox Multitenant.
Ideabox Multitenant serves as a crowdsourcing idea platform to effectively and
systematically manage innovative ideas.

As a User Experience Researcher, my role in the Adjustment Ideabox

Multitenant project is to make necessary adjustments to Ideabox based on insights
gained from user experience research. These adjustments encompass both design
and functionality changes on the website. The objective is to enhance the user
experience, meet user needs and expectations, and ultimately contribute to user
satisfaction and business success. The adjustments involve updating the GSM
guidelines, which cover aspects such as logo regulations, font selection, layout,
patterns, and all elements used in Ideabox. Additionally, adjustments are made to
streamline the flow and usability of features within Ideabox, ensuring a seamless
user journey.

To efficiently carry out the project, an Agile Scrum framework is employed.

This framework involves working in dedicated time periods, known as sprints, where
the Scrum team collaborates to complete tasks. Each sprint follows a predetermined
timeline, ensuring consistent progress throughout the development process. Through
iterative sprints with different deliverables, the project moves closer to achieving its
goals.

Analysis based on results and benefits in completing the Project

The analysis of issues found on the Ideabox platform reveals the need for
adjustments, specifically in terms of design and functionality. These adjustments
involve updating the GSM guidelines, which cover aspects such as logo rules, font
selection, layout, patterns, and all elements used in Ideabox. Additionally, flow
adjustments must be made to enhance the user experience and facilitate the
effective utilization of Ideabox's features. These adjustments are informed by insights
gained through user experience research.

The process of making these adjustments and conducting evaluations is

connected to the learning experience in the User Experience Evaluation and
Interface course. In this course, we are expected to select appropriate usability
evaluation methods and user experience techniques that are suitable for the
organization's context. We are also guided to identify issues, develop and implement
systematic methodologies to solve them, and apply logical and critical analysis to
achieve evaluation objectives. Furthermore, it is important to thoroughly and
systematically document the evaluation process. Similarly, in the Adjustment Ideabox
Multitenant project, the user experience researcher team is responsible for
identifying issues, devising systematic methodologies to address them, and ensuring
comprehensive and systematic documentation of the evaluation process.

Reflection on the learning outcomes of MBKM gained through experience

Throughout my internship at Digital Amoeba, I gained invaluable practical

work experience in the professional world. I was given the chance to actively
participate in a real project, applying the foundational knowledge and skills I had
acquired previously. One of the most beneficial aspects of this experience was the
significant enhancement of my hard skills in UX research. I learned effective
research methods, such as conducting interviews and heuristic evaluations, and how
to implement them in the context of product development and evaluation.
Not only that, but this experience also played a vital role in improving my soft
skills, particularly in direct user communication. Through conducting interviews and
engaging with users directly, I learned how to ask pertinent questions, listen
empathetically, and comprehend user needs and issues. These skills are essential in
understanding users and designing superior user experiences.

During the course of my internship, I encountered both satisfaction and

challenges while working on real projects. Overcoming obstacles and discovering
effective solutions became an integral part of my learning journey, enriching my
knowledge and experience. Contributing to the development of user-centric products
and receiving positive feedback from users brought me great joy

On the whole, my internship at the Digital Amoeba Program provided ample

opportunities for personal and professional growth. It expanded my knowledge and
expertise in the field of UX research, while also honing my ability to communicate
directly with users. This experience granted me valuable insights into the industry
and equipped me for the forthcoming challenges in my career within this field.
