TOPIC: CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH
TEXTs: Luke 18:8, Jude.1-25
MEMORY VERSE: ‘Beloved, when I gave diligence to write unto you of the common
salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.’ Jude 3

INTRODUCTION: There is a virtue we have in Christ Jesus which grants us access to the
Grace of God and to Eternal Life with Him. This virtue is our FAITH TOWARDS GOD. The
enemy in these last days is out to rob us of this virtue. One of the ways he does this is through
false teachers who introduce seductive and demonic doctrines thus encouraging careless living
and disobedience to God’s Commands among Christians. Apostle Paul refers to such teachers as
grievous wolves see Acts 20:29-30. The word of God in our text, Jude 3 encourages us to
contend earnestly for the faith. We trust our Father through His Word to help us understand what
Contending for the Faith truly means and how we can go about it daily.

1. Understanding Faith- Matthew 15:8, Hebrews 11:1-3, 5-6, John 3:16, 18a, Romans
10:10-11
2. ‘Contend earnestly for the faith’, what do you understand by this phrase?
3. ‘For certain men have crept in unnoticed’, v.4. From these scriptures, discuss how we can
know them.
 By their doctrines- Acts 15:1, 20:29-30, 1Timothy 4:1-5, 2Timothy 2:16-18, 4:3-
4, 1John 2:22-23, 2John 7-10, Jude 4.
 By their conduct and way of life- Matthew 7:15-16,20, Jude 8-19

4. How can we contend earnestly for the faith? – Jude 4, 18 20-23

o Disassociate yourself from false teachers and mockers- Psalm 1:1, 2 John 1:10
o ‘Building yourselves up on your most holy faith’- Joshua 1:8, Acts 6:4 20:32,
Colossians 3:16, 2Timothy 1:13-14, 3:14-17, 1Peter 2:2.
o ‘Praying in the Holy Spirit’- Romans 8:26-27, 1Corinthians 14:4, 15, Ephesians
6:18..
o ‘Keep yourselves in the love of God’- John 15:4-9, 1John 2:24-25.
o ‘Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ Unto eternal life’- Luke 1:50,
Hebrews 4:16.
o ‘And on some have compassion… but others save with fear, pulling them out of
the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh’- Mark 6:34, Galatians 6:1,
1Timothy 4:12-16, 2 Timothy 2:24-26, 4:1-5.
CONCLUSION
Contending for the Faith has to do with guarding jealously our Faith in Christ Jesus, through
living the life Jesus Christ gave us, the way He expects us to and continuing in the doctrines of
Jesus Christ and teaching it. The call to contend for the Faith is necessary as failure to do so
would cost one eternity with the Lord.
