Abstract

Writing with young English learners can feel like a challenge.

Primary classrooms often focus on oral communication, and
young children haven’t fully mastered writing in their own
language or recognizing English words. However, we should
not neglect writing, which will be an essential skill for a
students of English as they grow up.

So, what can we do? This webinar will suggest ways teachers
can help young learners grow into good writers.

Why is Writing Hard/ Not Fun?

• Students need to juggle a lot of things – grammar,

vocabulary, register, imagination ,etc. to get it right
• It is often a solitary task, given as homework
• Essay titles are boring
• Students feel like failures when they have writing
returned to them covered in red ink
• It’s not fun
• It’s not communicative
• It’s not creative
