For 1/a = d/b, d= u/s cut off depth
b= horizontal creep length
for 1/ a and from khoslas curve
ØD = -----------% and ØE = -----------% and ØC1 =100- ØE=--------------%
Hence, ØD1= 100-ØD = ---------------%
ØE1 = 100% since it is located at u/s floor level
*Correction for thickness for ØC1 =Øc1+[(ØD1-ØC1)/d]* t

Where d= ------m (d/s cut off) and t= 0.5m (u/s apron thickness)

*Correction for interference of d/s cut off for Ø C1,

C= 19 (D/b)1/2 *[(d+D)/b] where D=(d/s cut off), d = (u/s cut off) & b= --------------m
C= -------------% (+)
The correction for ØC1= Correction for thickness for ØC1 +C= -------------%

Pressure at key points E, D and C of d/s cut off

For 1/a = d/b, ØD = --------% & ØE= ------------%
ØC= 0, as it is located at the d/s floor level.
Correction for thickness for ØE= ØE- [(ØE-ØD)/d]*t

Where t=d/s floor thickness, d= d/s cut off

Correction for thickness for ØE =---------- %

Correction for interference of u/s cut off for Ø E,
C= 19 (d /b )1/2 *[(d+D)/b] D= u/s cut off, d= d/s cut off , b= horzt creep
= ------------% ( - )
Hence, total correction for ØE = Correction for thickness for ØE –C = ------------ %

Thickness for intermediate points A & B

If the pressure variation b/n u/s cut off C 1 and d/s cut off E, is assumed to be linear, the residual pressures
floor thickness for points A & B are found as:
Hrc1 = Hmax * ØC1= --------------m, ØC1 = -----------% & Hmax = weir height
At point E, the residual pressure head
HrE = Hmax * ØE = ---------m

Thickness at point A: The uplift pressure at A is given as:

PA= Hrc1- [(Hrc1-HrE )/b] *LA,
Where b= horizontal creep length b/n C1 & E = --------------- m
LA= Horizontal creep length b/n C 1 & point A, LA=--------------- m
Therefore, PA= ---------m
And the thickness at A,
tA= PA/gm-1 where gm = 2.3 t/m3 (spec gravity of masonry)
tA= (PA/ gm-1 )*1.30 ( i.e. with an excreta thickness of 30%)
tA = ---------------------m
But, the assumed thickness at point A was --------m and the thickness obtained by khosla's method is ------
Therefore, the previous thickness -------------------m is safe.
Thickness at B: Uplift pressure at B
PB= Hrc1 – [(Hrc1 - HrE )/b] *LB, Where LB =----------- m, b= -------------- m
= -------------------------m
tB= (PB/ gm-1 )*1.30 ( i.e. with an excreta thickness of 30%)
But the assumed thickness at point B was ---------m and the thickness obtained by khosla's method is ------
and hence the previous assumed thickness, ------------m is safe.

where ast = πD2/4 = 153.86

Considering cover thickness of 50mm, effective depth is = 214.517647058824

equal to (Deff = t-(50-φ/2))

Thus, Provide = φ12 @ C/C 20cm

Hence spacing of reinforcement = 271.51764705882
Actual area of steel= = 461.58
Therefore the actual provided steel area is 566.66 mm2/m i.e > 461.58, Provide reinforcement ba
of 300N/mm2.for both Operation slab and breast wall.

The spacing of the reinforcement bar should be less than three times t
N.B which is smaller of the two. Effective depth=250mm Hence the actual s
>300mm<750mm.Hence it is ok.
The spacing @ c/c should be account the diameter of the reinforcemen
larger size of the reinforcement is applied during actual operation. This
N.B divide wall with reinforcement size of 14 mm with C/c spacing of 150
provided for the weir, apron, under sluice and Divide wall and check th
information.
But from experience this cover thickness is not enough for weir cappin
N.B the rebar is exposed hence cover thickness of 70mm is provided.This c
weir, apron and under sluice. For more check the design drawing.

UNDER SLUICE
Some of the important roles that the under sluice plays are;• It enables the canal to draw silt free water from surfac
• Scour the silt deposited in front of the canal off take (head regulator),• Preserve a clear and defined river channel
Here the under sluice is mainly provided to remove silt deposition and increase the efficiency of water abstracting t
of this under sluice is fixed to be equal to the minimum bed level. But since the river crosection is V shape and the
it should be modified during construction time. but the right side sluice sill level can be equal to the minimum bed

Different literatures show that the size of the under sluice opening is to be designed so as to pass a discharge of 1
base flow which ever greater. However, in this diversion irrigation project considering such criteria is difficult mainl
designer assumed a nominal opening size of one meter by one meter specially giving greater attention for o
installed. The gate should be easy to lift by a single operator. Leaving the complexity of the hydraulic paramete
considered to determine its capacity. To carry out the analysis, pond level case was assumed as the over flowing
proposed for silt scouring during rainy season. Consequently, the opening size of the sluice was checked for its cap
water when the construction is commenced. The Orifice Flow Condition is expected as the stored water upstream o
being squeezed by the breast wall. The discharge passing is computed using the following formula.

Thus, Provide =  12 @ C/C 20cm Dia

Hence spacing of reinforcement = <3*De 430.44706 mm Ok!
Actual area of steel= =

Therefore the actual provided steel area is 566.66 mm2/m i.e > 339.12 , so Provide reinforcement bars
