Divide wall
The divide wall separets the undersluice from the main weir portion and allows a silt free water flow to the head regulator by
pocket. The force components of this strucure is its self weight, silt and water pressures The critical forces are when one side o
other side is free. This critical case is true when water is on both sides of the divide wall and silt is maximum on the undersluice
cantiliver wall consists as shown below.Based on this principle, the analysis is shawn as follow as:

UNDER SLUICE
Some of the important roles that the under sluice plays are;• It enables the canal to draw silt free water from surfac
• Scour the silt deposited in front of the canal off take (head regulator),• Preserve a clear and defined river channel
Here the under sluice is mainly provided to remove silt deposition and increase the efficiency of water abstracting t
of this under sluice is fixed to be equal to the minimum bed level. But since the river crosection is V shape and the
it should be modified during construction time. but the right side sluice sill level can be equal to the minimum bed
Different literatures show that the size of the under sluice opening is to be designed so as to pass a discharge of 1
base flow which ever greater. However, in this diversion irrigation project considering such criteria is difficult mainl
designer assumed a nominal opening size of one meter by one meter specially giving greater attention for o
installed. The gate should be easy to lift by a single operator. Leaving the complexity of the hydraulic paramete
considered to determine its capacity. To carry out the analysis, pond level case was assumed as the over flowing
proposed for silt scouring during rainy season. Consequently, the opening size of the sluice was checked for its cap
water when the construction is commenced. The Orifice Flow Condition is expected as the stored water upstream o
being squeezed by the breast wall. The discharge passing is computed using the following formula.
The gate of the under sluice is to be vertical sheet metal of 1.1m x 0.75m for the closure of the o
some extra dimensions for groove insertion. Gross area of sheet metals for the under sluice gate
(allowing 5cm insertion for grooves). The grooves are to be provided on the walls using angle iron
the gate openings. The gate (sheet metals) is provided with stiffening angle irons. A vertical raise
under sluice. These gates simply raised by farmers without spindle.

To avoid spilling of water during The occurance of highest flood in to the canal, provision of a wall is provided from
top level up to the HFL (i.e. known as breast wall). A vertical raised gate whichi slides over the breast wall-using sp
during opening and clousing is designed for the head regulator. operation slab is also provided at the top of breast
simplicityof gate operation. Breast wall and operation slab are considered to be reinforced wall. Their thickness is s
determined from point of construction rather than the imposed load. the thickness required for the imposed load is
less than nominial value 15cm . thickness considered in this design case is 20cm and minimum rein forcement are
also used. are of steel per 1 meter width is given by (Asteel =PMin% of steel *W*t)
