1. OPERATIVE / FUNCTIONALITY

Grid string transports are used to move large quantities of garments over long distances and/or at different levels, arranged in a compact
manner (in blocks) and hung (on hangers). It is runned by electric motors spread along fence conveyor.

The track design is extremely flexible as it is linked by flexible connections that form an endless continuous conveyor that is ideal for
batches and packages. If necessary, the conveyor track can also be used as a buffer.

Products can simply be loaded onto the continuous transmission conveyor at any time via a loading station or a smooth track.

This equipment is basically composed of an automatic grid chain conveyor, fence conveyor 200G, in which a series of devices that
control/manage its automation (recording distance device, detect station, encoder, etc.) are integrated, as well as automatic or manual
loading/unloading units.

MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM

☐ STEP 01
Each fence conveyor has at least one Distance recording device in which a light barrier (B)
recognizes the mobile hanger (E) in front of the induction station. Induction stops for a
specific transport route if a hanger (E) is recognized.

A. Optical fiber
B. Light barrier (optical fiber)
C. Track
D. Pull rod
E. Hanger

NOTE: Garments on hangers shall be placed on the fence conveyor with the hook facing in.

☐ STEP 02
A Detect station is used to allocate the correct delivery point for the items in the grid
conveyor. If an item or pack is placed into the grid conveyor in the loading station, the loaded
grid moves into the detect station. The delivery point is determined here.

A. Optical fiber
B. Light barrier (optical fiber)
C. Sensor barriers (sender/receiver)
D. Coupler box
E. Extension IP Link
F. Barcode scanner (SICK CLV)

☐ STEP 03

The rotary Encoder is used to measure the exact feed rate of the conveyor, and then to
divide this into pulses, in order to control the induction points and drop offs in the conveyor as
well as to track the parts. The mechanical connection is made without any friction via a
flexible shaft coupling directly to the drive chain of the conveyor.

A. Profibus connection
B. Supply voltage
C. Profibus address setting
D. Cover

☐ STEP 04 The loading/unloading units facilitate controlled loading/unloading of the goods on to the

conveyor track, separately or in batches. The grid string transports has different types of
loading/unloading units.

The powered loading unit does not have a separate motor, instead it is driven directly via the
grid conveyor.

☐ STEP 05

The fence conveyor is driven by motors (LENZE SEW) with frequency converters that are
distributed along its entire length. The number of motors on each conveyor depends on its
length.

A rubber wheel coupled to the motor drives by friction the long pull rods of which the fence
conveyor is composed.

ERRORS

☐ STEP 01

ERROR: An example of a common problem on grid string conveyors is rubber breaking

between the drawbars (grids). This error does not cause alarms, errors or warning beacons,
because the close-in conveyor continues to run smoothly. But it is easily detected because
the clothes fall to the ground.

CAUSE: This problem is caused by the loss of elasticity of the rubber due to the passage of
time and changes in temperature. As the conveyor is constantly circulating in a loop with
fairly tight curves, it causes the rubber to gradually crack and end up breaking.

SOLUTION: Replace rubber broken.

Important note: To solve other common errors, consult the manufacturer's manual.

MAINTENANCE INTERVALS

☐ STEP 01 The manufacturer's recommended mechanical and electrical checklist is shown on the left .

MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

☐ STEP 01
To replace pull rod/grid from a fence conveyor follow bellow steps:

1) Remove the Bayonet Clip (B) pressing it with an assembly tool from the bolt (C) in
the arrow direction (X).
A A 2) Remove the connector (D)
3) Pull the pull rod downwards keeping hold of the U disk.
4) Dismantle the pull rod by pulling it downwards.
5) Next pull the pull rod out sideways from the front and rear pull rod.
Y 6) Insert the new pull rod pushing the black rubber rod into the pull rods and
E connecting the joints.
7) The drives plug back into the joints and secured with a mounting tool the bayonet
D clips (A).

☐ STEP 02 To replace the optical fibre from a recording distance device, follow bellow steps:

1) Pull the optical fibre (A/B) out of the light barrier (E).
2) Dismount the cover (C/D).
3) Remove nuts (F) from the optical fibre (A/B).
4) Replace the optical fibre (A/B) and then remount the nuts (F).
5) Next remount the cover (C/D).
6) Shorten optical fibre (A/B) to the right length and replace it in the light barrier (E).

Tighten nuts (F) of the optical fibres (A/B) slightly.

Only shorten the optical fibre (A/B) with the cutters supplied.
