Baseline

Socio- Economic Environment

Social Impact Assessment was carried out in all 10 affected settlements covering 8 revenue villages

Population of these settlements is 15,579, spread over 3113 households.

Primary data was collected through household survey and Focus Group Discussion (FGD)

Categories considered for survey - 1.General urban population going to be affected due to NMIA
2. General rural population going to be affected due to NMIA.
3. Project affected population (post resettlement ).
4. Project affected population still not be relocated/ resettled.
Baseline
Results-
Caste: Majority belong to the OBC category, with fewer SC and ST populations.
Drinking water: Around 90% of villages have tap water facilities provided by CIDCO, MIDC, and Gram
Panchayat.
Sanitation: 95% of villages have personal toilets with septic tanks, and both open and closed drainage
systems are present.
Education: Primary and middle schools are available in almost all surveyed villages, with higher
education facilities in Panvel.
Medical facilities: Access to primary health sub-centers and centers within a 2-4 km range, with major
illnesses treated in Panvel and Belapur City.
Garbage disposal: House-to-house garbage collection and garbage bin facilities provided by Gram
Panchayats.
Transportation: Various transportation facilities available, with government and private buses being the
primary mode of transport.
Market: Markets within a 4-10 km range, with villagers preferring Panvel for shopping purposes.
Power: All surveyed villages have electricity for domestic use.

Results-
Employment: Majority engaged in industrial work, labor, and private jobs, with some involved in fishing.
Unemployment is a significant issue.
Income: Daily wage for laborers ranges from Rs. 500-700, while those in cultivation earn Rs. 200-400
per day
House pattern: Majority of houses are pakka (permanent structures), with a small percentage living in
rented houses.
Women's status: Most women are housewives, with some working in the private sector, household
industry, fish marketing, and labor.
Cooking fuel: LPG is the main cooking fuel, with around 90% of households having connections. Other
sources include wood, coal, and cow dung cakes.

Further, The study area has a- Household size -4.14 (2011) which reduced from 4.40 (2001).
-Population density- 4104 persons per km² (> Popl. density of Mahrashtra).\
-Urban population- 89% | Rural Population - 11%.
- Literacy rate of 89.40%(> Literacy rate of district).
-5.13% and 3.12% population belongs SC and ST population respectively.

The concentrations of PM2.5,


PM10, SO2, NO2, O3, CO, NH3, Pb,
BaP, As, Ni and C6H6 are observed
to be well within the NAAQ
standards for industrial and rural
/residential zone. Values of VOC
and HC are observed to be <0.1
ppm in the study area.
