The Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPIW) of the Ministry of
Public Works and Housing had issued Decission Letter No.18/KPTS/KW/2023 dated April 18, 2023 related to the formulation of regional development evaluation masterplan to accelerate infrastructure providing in five industrial areas, the ministry said in a release Wednesday (21/6). "The strategic industrial areas as instructed by the minister are Weda Bay, Sorowako, Morowali, Konawe and Tanjung Selor. The masterplan will also support constructions of access road," BPIW Director Yudha Mediawan said. For the national strategic project Morowali industrial area, located in Central Sulawesi, the government had invested up to Rp135.8 billion to construct a number of infrastructures between 2020 and 2023, namely drainage revitalization between Bungku-Bahodopi-Batas Sultra (2020), road expansion between Bahodopi-Batas Sultra (2021-2022) and access road preservation between Bungku-Bahodopi-Batas Sultra (2020-2023). According to BPIW survey, key strategic issues currently faced by Morowali are the lack of environemntal and spatial planning between settlements and workers' housing areas, flood surrounding the area, traffic jam on national road during office hours as well as heavy littering on roads and settlement areas. "For Morowali, the activity planning should be implemented at the end of 2024, including 10km additional road length between Bungku-Bahodopi-Batas Sultra, rehabilitation of 20Ha slumps surrounding the site, waste management system for the entire area and the construction of 20Ha waste disposal area in Bahodopi, soaking uo Rp122 billion worth of investment," Yudha said. The ministry has also prepared a number of readiness critera of several supporting infrastructure with construction scheduled in 2025.
