because they want to deny the effectiveness of online learning. Today, we are going to open their eyes to accept the hard truth. But before that, Bismillah, Assalam w.b.t Madam Speaker of the house, the respected panel of adjudicators, the ever- precise timekeeper, my worthy opponents, loyal comrades, ladies and gentlemen, members of the parliament, good morning to all. As the Prime Minister, it would be my duty to propose today’s motion Online Learning Is More Effective Than Physical Learning. Honorable judges, first, let me define todays motion. Based on Oxford Dictionary, Online means an activity or service using the internet or other computer network. Learning can be defined as something that you learn especially from your experience of working on something. While "more effective than" in this context refers to successful in producing a desired or intended result. Last but not least, physical means something connected to a person's body rather than their mind. With these definitions, it becomes clear conceptually (kenseptually), that online learning is better for students because it obviously has bigger impact. I'll now use a straightforward analogy. Face-to-face instruction is like making rice the old-fashioned way. Online education is similar to using a rice cooker. Using an electronic rice cooker, in contrast, is much more effective, saves time, prevents crusting, and we don’t have to wait until the rice is fully cooked. We see the benefits of online learning in terms of having an effective impact on students as opposed to face-to-face instruction, which is similar to our current concept. Members of the house, It will be the responsibility of me and my four colleagues on the government side to dive into our evidences that explains how online learning is more effective for students than physical learning. Therefore, as a start to my argument, I will explain to you we, the government team's objectives here. We are here to convince you how online learning is more effective than physical learning in the two most important aspects of a student's studies, namely academically and also in co-curricular Ladies and gentlemen As the Prime Minister, I will begin the government strategy today by presenting an argument under the keyword of academic effectiveness. My Deputy Prime Minister will highlight the flaws made by the opponent and present two arguments under the key words of student involvement in the field of co- curriculum and students' ability to face the era of globalization. And before the reply speech our Minister of Education will rebut all the untruthful points and allegations made by the opposition team. Last but foremost our 4th and 5th minister will interject and give facts about today's motion so that you will see with definite clarity why we believe that online learning is more effective than physical learning. As for today we demand the opposition team to proved that online learning is not able to have an effective impact on students compared to physical learning based on the two aspects that we brought earlier.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Proceed to our first stand under the keyword of academic effectiveness. Actually the development of online learning in schools has already begun when the Malaysian Ministry of Education introduced smart schools starting with 88 schools. It was then extended to all schools through school redesign, further introducing the use of FROG virtual learning environment and digital learning platform.
Human norms at the time had been
significantly altered by the COVID 19 epidemic that struck the world at the end of 2019. Among these, the once-face-to- face teaching and learning process has been replaced with home-based online instruction.
Therefore, even though online education
has only been fully implemented for two years, we, as the government team, were able to demonstrate the validity of our belief with a press release from a local newspaper that stated the improvement in the results of SPM 2020.
Senior Minister of Education Dato Dr.
Radzi Jidin has declared that the achievement of SPM 2020 is better than in 2019, with a national average grade of 4.80 compared to 4.86 in 2019, through a Sinar Harian report.
So, these spm students managed to score
exceptionally well despite students studied online. And to our surprise, the academic achievement gap between village and city students has narrow from 0.44 in 2019 to 0.38 in 2020 as a result of online learning.
According to a study made by the Hulu
Langit college, about online learning effectiveness for students, 70 percent of respondents strongly agreed that online learning is more effective for students compared to physical learning.
Thus, it is clear that students benefit more
from online learning than in-person instruction.
Members of the house,
Let's reflect with our heart, which is the
glass, which is the jewel, and which is the best for us. I hope that the majority of the council can support today's motion, which is online learning is more effective for students than physical learning. With that I bow thank you.
