1 Convert each of the following: [12]

a) 3600mm² to m² b) 78.7 km² to cm²

3600÷(1000)² 78.7 x (100000)²

= 0.0036mm2 =7870000000000
=7.87 x 10^11

c) 20000 cm² into m² d) 8.87 m³ into cm³

20000÷(100)² 8.87 x (100)³
=2m² =8870000cm³

e) 12,000 mm 3 to cm 3 f) 23.7l to ml
12000 ÷ 10³ 23.7 x 1000
=12cm³ =23 700 ml

2.984m³ to cm³ 8000mm² to m²

g)

2.984 x (100)³ 8000 ÷ (1000)²
=2984000cm³ =0.008m²

2 What metric unit would you use to measure: [4]

a) The Mass of a ship b) Distance from Rome to Paris

Tonne Kilometre/ Mile

c) Length of a football pitch d) Mass of a baby

Metre Kilogram

e) Mass of a spider f) Volume of a cupful of coffee

Gram Millilitre

g) Area of a school field Mass of a small table

Square metre Kilogram

3 A tin of paint is sold in 1.5 L. A litre of paint covers about 12m². Estimate the number of tins needed [3]
to paint a rectangular wall measuring 15m by 3.5m.

Area of rectangular wall= 15 x 3.5=52.5m²

Estimation to be 53m²

I.5 litres of paint in 1 tin

1 litre cover 12m²
How many litres needed to cover 53m²?
53÷12=4.4= 4.5 litres estimated
Tins needed=4.5÷1.5= 3 tins needed(estimated)

5 A newborn baby has a mass of 3.84 kg. The mass of the baby increases by 242g each week, for [3]
the first 4 weeks. Calculate the mass of the baby, in g, when it is 4 weeks old.

242 x 4=968g
3840 + 968=4808 g, the mass of baby when it is 4 weeks old

6 a) A car is travelling at 66 miles per hour to a certain place.Approximately, how many kilometers per [3]
hour is this?

8
66 x = 105.6 km/h
5

b) Convert 77.8 km into miles [2]

5
1km = mile

7 a) ABCD is a parallelogram [2]

Prove that triangles ABD and BCD are congruent.

BD is shared
BA = CD (opposite sides of a parallelogram)
BC = AD (opposite sides of a parallelogram)
Therefore ABD and BCD are congruent due to
Side, Side, Side.

b) James and Chris each draw a triangle with one side of 10cm, one angle of 45° and one angle of
85°. James says their triangles are congruent. Explain why James is incorrect.

Since we do not know the exact location of each angle, we cannot assume that the two triangles
above are congruent, hence James is incorrect.

8 a) Billy has a cuboid shaped cupboard that measures 3.4m high, 2.2m long, and a width of 1.3m. [3]
Find the volume of the cuboid in cm³

Volume= 3.4m x 2.2m x 1.3m=9.724m³

9.724m³ to cm³= 9.724 x (100)³
=9 724 000cm³

b) Write the volume in a) in mm³ [2]

9 724 000cm³ to mm³= 9724 000 x (10)³

=9724000 000mm³
9.724 x 10^9 mm³

9 Draw the following: [6]

a) Draw a triangle PQR with sides PQ = 5 cm b) Draw a circle of radius 4 cm

RQ = 3 cm and PQR = 57°
Any triangle that fulfills the Circus with radius 4cm
requirement.

c) Construct a parallelogram PQRS with a d) Draw a triangle XYZ with angle Y =

base PQ of 6 cm an angle of 60o and the 45°angle X= 75° and side XY = 6 cm
other side of 4 cm.
Angle of 60° is necessary, and the other Angle Y=45°
side must be 4cm Angle x=75°
XY=6cm

12 a) A bucket contains 2.55 litres of water inside. Aaron added 1300ml of water. How many litres of [2]
water are there now?

2.55+ 1.3= 3.85 l

b) Aaron’s friend Jenny added another 375ml of water, before accidentally slipping the bucket to fell [2]
and lose 800ml of water. What is the balance amount of water left, in litres, in the bucket?

3.85 + 0.375 -0.80=3.425 l water left

13 Two of the triangles below are congruent. [2]

Identify the two congruent triangles and Explain your answer.

Triangles A and C are congruent because they might have the same values for the corresponding
Side and corresponding angle.

14 a) Genna cycles a distance of 2.85 km to her friends house. She then walks a further 870 m to a [2]
restaurant with her friend. Calculate the total distance, in m, that she covered.

Total distance= 2850+ 870m=3720m

b) Genna then had to jog slowly to a nearby clinic as her friend needs an immediate bandage, [2]
approximately 375.50 m from the current location. Estimate the new total distance covered by her
in metres.

3720+ 375.5=4095.5m
