MASCRETE LH

MASCRETE LH is the trade name of a specially manufactured Portland Pulverised-Fuel Ash Cement (PFA) [also
called Portland-fly ash Cement] by Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad.

The production of MASCRETE LH by intergrinding ensures homogeneity and consistency in the quality of the
product.

MASCRETE LH exceeds the quality requirements specified in the Malaysian Standard MS1227:2003 –
Specification for Portland Pulverised-Fuel Ash Cement and MS 522 : 2007 CEM II/B-V (which is based on BS EN
197) Composition, Specifications & Conformity Criteria for Common Cements.

MASCRETE LH is effective in reducing core temperature of big concrete structures, also to resist Chloride and
Sulphate attack for marine situations and to improve overall concrete durability.

MASCRETE LH is manufactured under an effective system of testing, control and monitoring, conforming to
requirements under SIRIM’s Product Certification Licence MS ISO/IEC 17025.

DURABILITY

MASCRETE LH is the cement for durable concrete. Compared to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), MASCRETE LH is
able to lower peak concrete temperature, offer better resistance to sulphate, chloride and better long term strength and
durability.

Benefits of using MASCRETE LH

Lower Heat Of Hydration
BS 8110 Part 1, Clause 6.2 stipulates that “ when the minimum dimension of the concrete to be placed in a single
time is greater than 600 mm and especially when the cement content is 400 kg/m3 or more, measures to reduce the
temperature such as using material with a lower release of Heat of Hydration should be considered.”
Reduction in peak and differential temperature will serve to minimise or prevent micro-thermal cracking thereby
avoiding the corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement.
The lower Heat of Hydration of MASCRETE LH will minimise the risk of micro-thermal cracking and enhance the
durability of concrete structures.

Hence, with the same binder content, MASCRETE LH concrete will

result in significantly lower temperature rise compared to OPC.

Resistance To Chloride Attack

It is well known that deterioration of marine structure is a serious problem in our country. The following table is a
Charge Transfer value comparison on the performance of MASCRETE LH compared to OPC tested according to
ASTM C1202-91 on Rapid Chloride Permeability (RCP).

Resistance To Sulphate Attack

Both BRE Special Digest 1, as well as BS 5328 on Concrete in Aggressive Ground, stipulate that PFA cement,
containing not less than 25% PFA, is recommended for up to Sulphate Class 5A (plus surface protection) on
Sulphate concentration.
PFA cement can effectively enhance the resistance to Sulphate attack.

Concentration Of Sulphate And Recommended Cement Type

Class Concentration of sulphate in Cement Type

1 < 0.4 OPC, PFA cement and others

2 0.4 - 1.4 OPC, PFA cement and others

3 1.5 - 3.0 PFA cement, SRC and others

4A 3.1 - 6.0 PFA cement, SRC and others

Health and Safety

There are no known significant health risks
associated with MASCRETE LH; however as
an airborne dust, it may cause irritation to
the eyes and respiratory system. Prolonged
contact with the skin may also cause skin
irritation.

Environment -
CO2 Emission
When we replace a single ton of cement
with fly ash, we are not only eliminating
waste from our planet but we are also
reducing the emission of 0.85 tons of CO2₂
into our atmosphere. This is a unique win-
win solution offered by MASCRETE LH and
it is no wonder that MASCRETE LH is at the
forefront amongst the green technologies
now being adopted all over the world by
leading organisations.

Quality Assurance of MASCRETE LH

At every stage in the manufacturing of
MASCRETE LH, care is taken to ensure
that the product is consistent in quality
and satisfies customers’ requirements.
