Dear audience, I am standing in front of you on this day to express my opinion on an

essential topic of our 21st century; POPULATION MIGRATION. Population migration can be
described as the movement of people changing their residence to or from a country during
to another. Population migration can be brought back to 9.000 yrs ago during the Holocene
climatic optimum. We could ask ourselves why migration has been increasing in the past
decades. Well, conflicts and instabilities have increased the number of people forced to flee
their country. However, refugees are only 10% of the migrant population. People migrate for
various reasons, the main being job related. Nowadays, population migration from one
country to another raise a series of concern which we are going to discuss in the following
minutes. I believe that migration has its benefits and disadvantages, yet migration should be
regulated depending on the perspective and migrants should be encouraged and supported
to stay in their countries rather than seeking better lifestyle elsewhere.

There are several reasons why population migrate:

War, Political Instability: Both are reasons where it is unsafe and risky to stay in its country of
origin and where migration might be the only solution. There is already a special treatment
for political refugees, and I believe this should be kept the same.

Another reason is seeking for better job opportunities and living standards. In this case, I
think that most of the people migrating to Western countries for this reason have often their
dreams crushed when they arrive. The journey is extremely dangerous, and the final job
opportunity might be better than the previous one, yet it is often basic system jobs.
In my opinion, people should be encouraged to stay in their countries and grow their own
job or business, which could be through the help of micro credit and NGO’s. It would be
more beneficial for people to stay in their country and try to make their economy rise
instead of risking their lives to get to the western world. It is often hard because of
corrupted governments.

Migrants benefit the economy by working and paying taxes to the government
However, this often has an impact on a country’s rising prices E.g: Portugal
+ Analysts have found that an increase in newcomers reduced natives’ wages,
+ Create an unbalanced change

Overall, I believe that the question of migration is a really complicated one and that it should
continuously be studied in order to try to get the best out of it for everyone.
