Procedures for MOFCOM Scholarship students to travel to China

I. Application for X1-Visa before the departure.

Please read the Visa policy carefully :

*For MOFCOM scholarship program students, the copy of admission letters and
JW201 forms are acceptable.

*For the 2020 MOFCOM scholarship program students who already take one year's
online classes, please contact the university to issue a Certification of Permission to
Enter China and Return to Campus as one of the required documents to apply for a
visa.

*Visa fee is 1600 Birr. The process will take 3-5 working days.

* The visa is only valid for 3 months. So if you are taking an online course or are not
going to China immediately, please apply for a visa when you need one.

*For detailed information, please contact the Visa Office directly.

II. Read the admission materials carefully when preparing yourself, as universities
may have their specific registration requirements such as submitting the degree copies
certified by degree conferring institution or certification authorities for qualification
review before valid registration.

III. International Flights Ticket Booking. Responsible department: Universities

Step 1: After your visa application has been approved, contact your university and ask
them to arrange international flights for you. All details concerning date, flight
number, travelling reminders and fees should be discussed with the university.

Step 2: Obtain a green QR code for you to board a flight to

China（https://hrhk.cs.mfa.gov.cn/H5）.
Kindly note that a green QR code is to prove you test negative for COVID-19 and it is
a MUST-HAVE for you to board the flight to China. Without it, travelers will not be
allowed onboard.
This will lead to reminder on staying healthy.

*Though the scholarship covers international flight tickets to China, it doesn't include
other fees before you arrive at China such as quarantine fees in the hotel in Addis
Ababa, visa application fees and COVID-19 test fees. Also, if you test positive, you
will not be given green QR code by the Chinese Embassy. Under this circumstance,
you will have to discuss with the university to re-arrange your flight and follow the
visa office's guidance on when and how you can re-start journey to China again.

*The quarantine policy before onboard was decided by Ethiopian Airlines, which
may include 3 days, the cost is not included in the scholarship. Please contact the
hotel to confirm the fee (may need about 500 USD).

*During the quarantine in the Skylight Hotel, if you need to take a COVID-19 test,
you can make an appointment by scan the following code of BGI.

*Flights to Shanghai, China may need to check-in at the Skylight Hotel on Saturday,
flights to Guangzhou, China may need to check-in at the Skylight Hotel on
Wednesday. Please contact and confirm the policy with Ethiopian Airlines.

*Please confirm your air ticket at the Ethiopian Airlines office or website. Make sure
of your flight time and arrive in the airport ahead of time.

IV. Quarantine in China. For negative test results upon entry, one needs to take a 10-
day-long quarantine. But if you test positive, it will depends on when you turn
negative, regulations of the local government as well as arrangement of your
university. Before travelling, it is advisable to learn more about the COVID -
prevention and control policies of China from your university.
*All accommodation expenses and treatment expenses (if any) incurred during the
period of quarantine and health monitoring in the cities of entry to China shall be
properly kept and reimbursed from the university.
*You had better contact your target universities to inform them of your flight
information and arrival time in China for their arrangement.

V. Luggage allowance. Ethiopian Air flight has an allowance of 40kg luggage for
each passenger but Chinese domestic flight only allows one free luggage of 20kg.
Please pay attention and do not take too much luggage with you if you have
connecting flights in China.

VI. Take some US dollars with you. It is necessary for you to take some US dollars
in case you may need them while first arriving in China. Your living allowance will be
given by the universities at the end of every month.

VII. Abide by the laws and regulations in China and disciplines of the
universities. Trafficking and/or trading drugs including Khat are legally forbidden in
China and punishable by law. Be cautious when taking parcels into/out of China at the
request of others otherwise you possibly will face criminal prosecution if found
carrying drugs or other illegal items.
