Learning standard: 1.1.1- Recognise and reproduce with support 3.1.1-Identify, recognise and name the
a range of high frequency target language letters of the alphabet

Main: At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to listen and say out at least 6 words with the
correct phoneme sounds.

Objectives

Complementary: At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to read and categorise at least 4 words
correctly.

Teaching aids
Pupils recite short phoneme poems guided by teacher.
Pre Lesson
1. Pupils listen to the sounds ay,ou,ie,ea and watch the gestures shown by the teacher.

2. Pupils are guided to listen and say out the words by using a suitable blending technique.

3. Pupils listen and say the words (M).


Lesson Development
4. Pupils listen and are guided to say the words through blending (L).

5. Pupils are given a boardgame to play in groups.

Pupils complete the ‘Let’s categorise’ worksheet in page 3 Year 2 Phonics Module.

Pre Lesson
Pupils recap and sing from the first Phonics video.

Lesson delivery:

1. Each pupil is given a cootie catcher. Pupils listen to their group leaders on ways to fold.

2. Pupils play and say out the words with their partners (M).
Lesson Development 3. Pupils play and blend the sounds as guided by their partners and teacher (L).

4. Pupils complete page 10 in Year 2 Phonics Module by rearranging the words to form the correct sentences.

Post-lesson: Pupils exchange modules to check their friends’ answers.
