Companies Act, 1913 to purchase all or any of the assets of the business of manufacturers, buyers and sellers of

and dealers in and repairers of electrical and chemical appliances and goods carried on by the Chloride Electric

Storage Company (India) Ltd., in India, since 1916 with a view thereto to enter into and carry into effect (either

with or without modification) an agreement which had already been prepared and was expressed to be made

between the Chloride Electric Storage Co. (India) Ltd. on the one part and the company of the other part. The

name of the company was changed to Chloride India Ltd. on 2 August 1972. The name of the company was

again changed to Chloride Industries Ltd. vide fresh Certificate of Incorporation dated 12 October 1988. The

GROWTH OF EXIDE BATTERY

Automotive and industrial battery maker, Exide Industries is looking to ramp up exports by increasing penetration

in existing geographies and exploring foray into newer markets.

To strengthen its presence in international markets, the company has focused on several key areas including

increase in manpower in export destinations, expanding the distributor base, exploring private labelling and

contract manufacturing opportunities, introducing new products and technologies, and investing in brand-building

with an eye on the future.

Exports accounted for nearly nine per cent of the company’s total turnover on a standalone basis during the year

ended March 31, 2022. The company had posted revenues of ₹12,382 crore during FY-22.

According to the company’s latest annual report for 2021-22, export revenues have doubled in the last two years

with double-digit growth registered in the previous year.

“Despite lockdowns in many countries, we have reported higher exports to West Asia, Africa, America and other

regions. Our exports through our collaborator East Penn, have received encouraging responses from customers.
DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES VTU CPGS, KALABURAGI
This has enabled our expansion in North American markets (United States and Canada) and helped increase our

market share,” the company said in the report.

Re-allocating resources

Exide, the report said, continues to foresee a strong growth momentum in export markets and accordingly it has re-

allocated its resources and capital to serve this demand.

“We began exports into new markets such as France and South Korea. We also witnessed growth in market

penetration in countries such as Spain, Germany, West Asia and Southeast Asia, Australia, South Africa and other

European markets such as the United Kingdom. We aspire to outperform underlying markets by leveraging our

industry-leading products and robust sales network. We are raising the bar on profitability by enhancing our

offerings through premiumization and enriching our product mix to focus on the replacement market for IUPS and

traction verticals,” the report said.

Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, the company secured an order for mini-submarine batteries for export

during FY-22. It also received an order from the Indian Navy to build submarine batteries along with a full set of

accessories and spares for a nuclear submarine.

“We have indicated our readiness to use surplus capacity to produce and deliver submarine batteries to the Indian

Navy. We plan to ship one set of Type-I submarine batteries, complete with all accessories and spares, in FY

2022-23. Leveraging our domestic market leadership, we are positioned to secure export orders of submarine

batteries in the near-term,” it said.

The company’s automotive battery exports continued to grow and gained momentum during FY-22. It managed to

steer through the unprecedented logistic challenges faced and cater to the requirements of the global channel

partners.

DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES VTU CPGS, KALABURAGI

Despite lockdowns in many countries, the company reported higher exports to West Asia, Africa, America, and

other regions. There was, however, some degrowth in Southeast Asia, where the pandemic had slowed down

business significantly.

Exide has made significant in-roads into all countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to become a leading

supplier of batteries to the region.

The company expects a huge opportunity in the 2V-battery range standby business in Middle East Asia, Africa,

and the South-East Asian market. The market for 2V business will continue to expand in West Asia, Middle East

Asia, and the South-East Asian market, it said.

CHAPTER 03

MCKINSEY 7’S FRAMEWORK

INTRODUCTION
The 7s model is better known as Mckinsey 7s this because the person who developed this model tom

peters and Robert waterman, have been consultants at Mckinsey. They published their 7s model in

their article structure is not organization 1980 and their books the art of Japanese management 1981

and in search of excellence 1982.

The model starts on the premise that organization is not a structure but consist of seven elements

namely.

1. STRUCTURE

2. SYSTEM

3. STRATEGY

4. SKILLS

5. STYLE

6. STAFF

7. SHARED VALUE

These seven elements are distinguished as so-called hard s and soft s the hard elements are feasible and

easy to identify. They can be found in strategy statements corporate plan organization charts and

documentation.

The four soft S however are hardly feasible they are difficult to describe since capabilities value and

elements of corporate culture are continuously development and changing, they are highly determined

by the people at work in the organization. Therefore, it is much more difficult to plan or to influence

the characteristics of soft elements the information flows from the top level of management to lower

levels.
STRUCTURE

TOP LEVEL MANAGEMENT

It contains of chairman, executive chairman, vice president, and general. Those are responsible to take

major execution regarding the company.

MIDDLE LEVEL MANAGEMENT

It contains of departments head, which are responsible to take the decisions regarding

the particular department with the help of top-level management.

LOWER-LEVEL MANAGEMENT

Its containts of supervisions department assistants’ operators and helpers. These are the responsible to
operate machine’s and for the preparatory work of each department.

STRATEGY
In which business aims to improve its position relation to its competiton is embodies in its strategy or
war of doing something in organization.

In NSL introduce new technologies and products strategies importance in time with national
objectives to improve quality reliability of products there by attaining the international
standards.

SYSTEM

Systems are refers to how the production system distribution, information system and security system
is maintained in its company.
A production system, distribution system, security system information system.
PRODUCTION SYSTEM

The process of production consists of inputs as sugarcane and output as sugar. First the cane will be

crushed in five mills. Juice will be transferred to boiling stations. In the boiling station, for the purpose of

purification Sulphur and lime powder will be added in proper proportion.

DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

The distribution system of thru sugar produced is in the following way

 Direct sale are made within the state and outside the state

 Indirect sales are made outside the country and the depot sales are also made the produces are also sold

directly to consumers or sold to the wholesalers.

SECURITY SYSTEM

The NSL has strict security system. in the maintenance of accounts after the records have closed the

records are kept in the room is opened only with permission of higher authority. if the visitors went to

intern, they to take prior permission with authority and after entering they are not supposed to go any

department other them the department from whom they took permission.
How to use Mckinsey 7S Framework to Analyze Exide Industries.

Strategy
Exide Industries needs to build a balance between short run cost savings and protecting its core competitive
advantage. Customers perceive Exide Industries products and services to deliver ‘value for money’
proposition plus a bit extra. In its zest to gain more market share through competing on prices, Exide
Industries should avoid cutting costs that can result in inferior product and service delivery.
Structure
The pandemic has questioned the current structure and supply chain management of the company. To be
more resilient organization and prepare itself for future disruption of similar magnitudes Exide Industries
should focus on – diversifying suppliers geographically so that climate related, geopolitical, and other
disruptions don’t impact the long term survival of the company.
Reduce the dependence on China – As the trade war between US and China is getting aggressive, it should
reduce its dependence on supply chain emerging out of China. This will help the organization to diversify
risks, avoid regulatory problems etc.

Reduce the dependence on China – As the trade war between US and China is getting aggressive, it should
reduce its dependence on supply chain emerging out of China. This will help the organization to diversify
risks, avoid regulatory problems etc.
To achieve the above two goals – Exide Industries needs to fine tune its organization structure. It needs to
have smaller teams, easy reporting to the headquarters, and enabling teams to take decisions based on real
time developments.

Systems
Exide Industries needs to focus on the following areas – Improve internal processes, such as risk
management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), web app optimization, and data visualization
across the organization.

Exide Industries needs to put in place robust system for “work from home” employees so that there can be
greater interaction among the employees both online and in physical environment. It will not only improve
productivity but also increase the data security and cyber security.

Staff
Some of the steps Exide Industries can take in to improve the human resources are –Recruitment and remote
onboarding – Because of the pandemic, a lot of employees are working from remote locations. To make the
environment more inclusive for the new employees, Exide Industries should build system for remote
onboarding such as – catalog of short videos, small groups interaction, technical demonstrations.

Open chats for the people to approach people at various levels in the hierarchy. It will not only help the top
management to directly interact with the people below but also help in building an open and transparent
culture.

Skills
Exide Industries can build a structured training and development program for people working from remote
locations.

Exide Industries can hire fresh talent as more and more people are leaving their existing jobs because they
are not challenging them enough.
Style / Leadership Style & Culture
The leadership styles required in the physical location and in remote scenario are completely different. In a
physical environment manager can stop by a chat, provide inputs and go through the work. But in the remote
locations employees have to work in far more isolated environment. To improve the workflow – leaders
should pursue collaborative and inclusive form of leadership. Leaders should build smaller teams as part of
larger teams.

Shared Values
The organization has built a successful business model based on its core values, vision and mission. It
doesn’t have to change much in the shared values segment. One area where it can focus more is –
sustainability. Investors are putting a lot of stress on Environmental, Societal, and Governance issues, so it
can bring more transparency by using the Triple Bottom Line concept in its ESG and financial reporting.

Staff
Some of the steps Exide Industries can take in to improve the human resources are –

Recruitment and remote onboarding – Because of the pandemic, a lot of employees are working from remote
locations. To make the environment more inclusive for the new employees, Exide Industries should build
system for remote onboarding such as – catalog of short videos, small groups interaction, technical
demonstrations.
