7. From a vessel containing 30 litres milk, 6 litres are drawn out and the vessel is filled up with water. If this
same process is repeated two more times, how many litres of milk will be left in the vessel?
A. 12.2 liters
B. 15.36 liters
C. 16 liters
D. 9 liters
Correct answer
B. 15.36 liters
Run 2:
Total volume of mixture = 30 litres
Total volume of milk in the mixture = 24 litres
=> Percentage of milk in the mixture = 24/30 × 100% = 80%
So, when 6 litres mixture is drawn out, 80% of it i.e. (6 × 80/100) = 4.8 litres will be milk
=> Volume of milk remaining = 24 - 4.8 = 19.2 litres
Again, the rest of the volume is water

Run 3:
Volume of the mixture = 30 litres
Volume of milk in the mixture = 19.2 litres
=> Percentage of milk in the mixture = 19.2/30× 100% = 64%
So, when 6 litres mixture is drawn out, 64% of it i.e. (6 × 64/100) = 3.84 litres will be milk
=> Volume of milk remaining = 19.2 - 3.84 = 15.36 litres.
8. C is twice as fast as A and B working together, and can complete the work 4 days earlier than A and B
working together. If A takes 16 days to do the work alone, how many days would B alone take?
A. 16 days
B. 12 days
C. 18 days
D. 20 days
Correct answer
B. 12 days
=> x - x/2= 4
=> x/2 = 4
=> x = 8
Hence, A and B together do the work in 8 days
So, work done by A and B together in 1 day = 1/8 units
Also, if A takes 16 days to do the work alone, work done by A alone in 1 day = 1/16 units
If B completes the work alone in B days, work done by B alone in 1 day = 1/B units
=> 1/16 + 1/B = 1/8
=> 1/B = 1/16
=> B = 16 days.

each specimen with a harmless tag. Some weeks later, they catch a similar sample of fish from the same areas
of the lake and determine the proportion of previously tagged fish in the new sample. The total fish population
is estimated by assuming that the proportion of tagged fish in the new sample is the same as the proportion of
tagged fish in the entire lake. Suppose Biologists tagged 300 fish on May 1. When they returned on June 1, and
took a new sample of 400 fish, 5 of the 400 were previously tagged. Estimate the number of fish in the lake.

C. 3:16 4/11 AM
The sign is positive for right half of the clock, and negative for the left half, when the clock is divided into two
equal halves along an axis passing through 6 and 12.
Here, we need to find T.
Given that,
H = 3 (Since the time is between 3 to 4 AM)
A = 0o (Since the hands coincide at this time)
The sign is positive, since 3 AM will lie on the right half of the clock
=> T = 2/11 [3 × 30 + A]
=> T = 2/11 [90]
=> T = 180/11
=> T = 16 4/11 minutes
=> Actual time = 16 4/11 minutes past 3 AM = 3:16 4/11 AM

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow based on your understanding of the given
passage:
One likes to think that one's attitudes, beliefs, and related behaviour form a consistent pattern. Incongruity
that is detected results in a sense of imbalance or dissonance, which the person then seeks to correct. The
motivating effects of the need to correct incongruity, imbalance, or dissonance has been the occasion for
several theories. We may select for consideration the theory proposed by Festinger which treats cognitive
dissonance and its reduction. The kind of disagreement or disharmony with, which Festinger has been chiefly
concerned is that which occurs after a decision has been made, after one is committed to a course of action;
under such circumstances, there is often some lack of harmony between what one does and what one believes,
and there is pressure to change either one's behaviour or one's beliefs. For example, if a regular smoker reads
about the relationship between smoking and lung cancer, the habitual action and the new information are
dissonant. If the decision is made to continue smoking, the dissonance will be reduced by disbelieving the
information about the relationship between smoking and lung cancer; if the decision is made to give up
smoking, the information on the linkage between smoking and lung cancer will be accepted. The fact that this
information also affected the decision is not important here. As Festinger and others have shown, the weighing
of alternatives is more realistic prior to the decision; after the decision, the pressure is great to bring belief and
action into balance. The theory goes on to make some non-obvious predictions; for example, in some cases,
failure of expectations instead of destroying belief may strengthen it. This was illustrated by the study of a
group of people who expected to be saved from a prophesied disastrous flood by the intervention of a heavenly
being. The theory predicted that when the long-awaited day arrived and the prophecy failed (no flood), those
who had the social support of the other believers would indeed proselyte for their beliefs with new enthusiasm;
while those who had to face the crisis alone would have their faith weakened. These predicted results did
indeed occur, the rationalization for the group of disappointed believers who faced failure together being that

God had postponed his vengeance because of their faith. The tendency to be consistent is but one aspect of
how self-perception influences motivation. Earlier illustrations of human motivation might also be
reinterpreted in these terms. For example, the success motivation and the avoidance of failure are also
concerned with how a person sees himself. R.W. White, for example, reinterprets many motives concerned
with curiosity, and desire for knowledge and for achievement as though they are all concerned with one's sense
of competence as a person who is effective in relation to the environment. In another sense, the person likes to
develop his potentials to the full, to be as complete a person as he can. For such a pervasive type of motive, the
expression self-actualization was coined, originally by Carl Jung, one of Freud's followers who later developed a
system of his own. By self-actualization, he meant the development of full individuality, with all parts somehow
in harmony. The term and closely related ones (productive orientation, creative becoming, etc.) have been used
by man psychologists who criticize contemporary motivational theory as being too narrow concerned with
short episodes of choice and behaviour rather than with the more profound and pervasive aspects of individual
hopes and aspirations.
