Image Vocabulary Word Definition

Shading- Smudging or smearing of a material on


a surface to create an even covering in
order to appear blended.

Cross Hatching- Lines used to create value once crossed


over eachother multiple times.

Form- A shape which has transformed to


appear 3 dimensional once value was
added.
Hatching- Lines used to create value but that do
not cross over.

Stipple- Lines in small dots or dashes used to


create value transitions.

Contrast- Using various elements to intensify the


characteristics in the work such as using
shadows, light, color, size, and
composition.

Composition- How elements are arranged in the work.


Value - Transition from light to dark in a given
color (Hue)

Line- A mark left by a dot or point moving


over a surface. It is often an outline or
contour, showing the edge of an object,
or figure. They can be horizontal,
vertical, diagonal, long, short, straight,
curved, thick, thin, solid, dashed,
blurred, uneven, sharp-edged and can
create patterns.

Shape- A flat 2 Dimensional object that is


geometric in nature.
