Unit Information

This unit enables the learner to develop an awareness of the techniques

employed in engineering to communicate, measure and the use of basic
equipment.

This unit involves the use of tools, equipment or machinery and as such
Assessment

What do the assessments cover?

The assessments contained within the Learner Assessment Pack cover all
the learning outcomes within Unit QET2-001A: Engineering Techniques as
detailed in Summary of Learning Outcomes. The assessments consist of:
• One knowledge assessment that will cover learning outcomes 1-4
must be delivered in a secure and safe environment; learners must • One practical assessment(s) that will cover learning outcome 1.
be supervised at all times by competent and qualified staff to ensure
their safety. All tools, equipment or machinery must be maintained and How is the complete unit achieved?
presented in a safe and fit state for use. The learner will have to demonstrate their achievement of all learning
outcomes. Evidence of their achievement will be placed in their portfolio of
This unit is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Refer. Please refer to section evidence. The main pieces of evidence for their portfolio will include:
4 for grading criteria. • ET2-002A: Knowledge Assessment
• ET2-002B: Practical Assessment
The higher risk activities within this unit require safeguarding at all times. • Task/s set by your Teacher/assessor (if appropriate).

What is involved within the assessments?

Summary of Learning Outcomes This unit is assessed by:
• An externally assessed on-screen multiple choice examination that
The learner will: assesses the knowledge requirements of learning outcomes 1 - 4.
• An internally assessed task that assesses the practical requirements
1. Understand forms of communication used within engineering of learning outcome 1.
2. Understand the engineering applications of IT and ICT
3. Understand the basic tools and techniques used in engineering Guidance
4. Understand measurement and marking out techniques.
The learner should be briefed on what is involved and expected of them
and be fully prepared for any assessment.

You will ask the learner to complete work in an appropriate learning

environment. The learner will gather together the work they produce in a file
or folder, which then becomes their portfolio of evidence. You will assess
the learner’s portfolio to make sure that they have covered all the learning
outcomes and assessment criteria for this unit.
