INTRODUCTION
What is drug abuse ?
The use of illegal drugs on a regular basis is referred to as drug
abuse. Substance abuse is the compulsive, excessive, and
self-destructive use of a habit forming drug or substance that
leads to addiction or dependency, major physiological impairment
(such as damage to the kidneys, liver, or heart), and physiological
harm (such as dysfunctions, memory loss), or death.
Substance Abuse also often known as drug abuse, is a type of
Substance Related Disorder in which the user takes the substance
in quantities that are detrimental to oneself or others. In public
health, medical, and criminal contexts, widely disparate definitions
of drug misuse are utilised. When a person is under the influence
of drugs, he or she may engage in illegal or anti-social behaviour,
and long-term personality changes may ensue. In addition to
potential physical, social, and physiological harm, the use of
particular drugs may result in criminal consequences, which vary
depending on the local jurisdiction.
BOOK 1
DRUG ABUSE : CONCEPTS ,
PREVENTION AND CESSATION
Author : Stephen Susman,Susan L. Ames
Published year : 2008
Publisher : Cambridge University Press
Overview : Drug Abuse: Concepts, Prevention, and Cessation
serves as a comprehensive source of information on the
topography of, causes of, and solutions to drug problems. The
text covers conceptual issues regarding definitions of drug use,
misuse, abuse, and dependence. Importantly, the text
addresses a variety of theoretical bases currently applied to
the development of prevention and cessation programs,
specific program content from evidence-based programs, and
program processes and modalities. Information regarding
etiology, prevention, and cessation is neatly delineated into (a)
neurobiological, (b) cognitive, (c) micro-social, and (d)
macro-social/physical environmental units. The book is ideally
suited as a primary source for students and professionals in
chemical dependence programs, clinical and health psychology,
public health, preventive medicine, nursing, sociology, and
social work, among other fields, on the nature, causes,
prevention, and cessation of the abuse of legal and illegal
drugs.

DRUG ABUSE : PROBLEM ,
MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION

Author : Punit Puri

Published year : 2019

Publisher : Educreation Publishing

Overview : Today's youth face many risks, including drug abuse, violence, and HIV/AIDS. Responding to these
risks before they become problems can be difficult. One of the goals of writing this book is to help the public
understand the causes of drug abuse and to prevent its onset. Drug abuse has serious consequences in our
homes, schools, and communities. From this book’s perspective, the use of all illicit drugs and the inappropriate
use of illicit drugs are considered drug abuse. Prevention science has made great progress in recent years. Many
interventions are being tested in "real-world" settings, so they can be more easily adapted for community use.
Scientists are studying a broader range of populations and topics. They have identified, for example, effective
interventions with younger populations to help prevent risk behaviors before drug abuse occurs. Researchers are
also studying older teens, which are already using drugs to find ways to prevent further abuse or addiction.
Practical issues, such as cost-benefitanalyses, are being studied. Presenting these findings to the public through
this book is the most important responsibilities. I

DRUG LAWS IN MALAYSIA: WHETHER THE DRUG
LAWS HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVE IN CURBING THE
DRUG MENACE IN MALAYSIA.
Author: :Chandra Segaran Subramaniam

ABSTRACT: The phenomenon of drug abuse is really a global problem that has
haunted modern society. Its notoriety practically does not confine itself within
specific geographical borders nor differentiate its numerous victims in terms
of ethnicity or the socio-economic status of nations. Malaysia itself is no
exception because each year the statistics of new drug addicts identified has
steadily given rise to staggering drug laws around the world, whereby
trafficking in drugs carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment
in most of the countries in South East Asia. Nevertheless, the drug problem
seems to have persisted unabated. The problem is considered more
challenging, largely due to its close proximity to the Golden Triangle, the main
heroin producing region.

Trafficking
Abstract:
Adolescents are the group of people most prone to addiction in drug and
alcohol. Early onset of mental and behavioural health issues, peer pressure,
poverty, poor parental supervision and connections, a dysfunctional family
structure, a lack of opportunities, isolation, gender, and easy availability to
drugs are a few risk factors. Teenage pregnancy, criminality, underachievement in
school, and depression are all risks associated with alcohol and other drug use in the
adolescent population. Many of these youth will lose their lives to drugs and alcohol.
Through family, school, and community prevention programmes, the National
Institute on Drug Abuse(NIDA) emphasises the strategy of focusing on modifiable
risk factors and strengthening protective factors. The interventions that can lower
teenager substance usage rates should be implemented by doctors, community
leaders, and educational institutions.
