INTRODUCTION

The term “Supply Chain Management” was coined in 1982 by Keith Oliver of Booz,
Allen and Hamilton Inc. But the discipline and practice has been in existence for
centuries. The terms Logistics and Supply Chain Management are used
interchangeably these days, but there is a subtle difference that exists between the
two. ‘Logistics’ has a military origin, and used to be associated with the movement
of troops and their supplies in the battlefield. But like so many other technologies
and terminologies, it entered into the business lexicon gradually and has now become
synonymous with the set of activities ranging from procurement of raw materials, to
the delivery of the final polished good to the end consumer. In a typical business
scenario, many organizations work in tandem (knowingly or unknowingly) to get the
final product in hand of the end consumer. The supply chain is a network of these
organizations that coalesce with each other (downstream or upstream) to make the
final shipment successful. A group of farmers, a cotton mill, a designer and a tailor
is the least number of stakeholders you can expect from a regular shirt you wear
every day.

Definition of logistic and supply chain management.

"Logistics typically refers to activities that occur within the boundaries

of a single organization and Supply Chain refers to networks of
companies that work together and coordinate their actions to deliver a
product to market. Also, traditional logistics focuses its attention on
activities such as procurement, distribution, maintenance, and inventory
management. Supply Chain Management (SCM) acknowledges all of
traditional logistics and also includes activities such as marketing, new
product development, finance, and customer service" - Michael Hugos

INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE TOPIC

Every day is witnessing growth in the majority of the industries. The logistics
industry is an industry that is rapidly growing. With those tough competition
around, the companies are likely to have reduced profitability. Proper management
of operations, proper customer focused services, and effectively utilizing its
alliances, a company can maintain and improve the performance. Having joint
operational ventures for developing the customized services for its steady growth.
The organization has enormous opportunities to grow beyond expectations.

With a growing market demand for various products in the latter half of the 20th
century, many organizations ventured into risky but frugally profitable modes of
production, compromising long-term impacts both on society and the
environment. The effects of supply chains on environmental issues have been a
focal point in discussions involving stakeholders, authorities, and customers. Eco
friendly supply chain solutions support the automated checking of all freight costs
objectively, professionally and comparatively. In this organization, it has
enormous opportunities to grow beyond the expectations. Thus, an automatic
check can be made to see whether the transport invoiced for has really taken place
and whether the weight, capacity and tariff are correct. In such a case, the
innovative techniques of effective and eco-friendly supply chain is used in it. It
can also use green supply chain management practices in the eco-friendly supply
chain logistics. Both the local and international customers and buyers are now
requiring their suppliers to make environmentally friendly products. The
increasing awareness from communities on the environmental problems also has
created this matter becoming more critical to companies. Besides, the European
Union has developed a range of environmental regulations such as the Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances
(ROHS), and Eco-design for Energy using Products (EUP) directives. These
directives will forbid manufacturers from selling the products that contains
hazardous materials onto the markets. So that the companies started to execute a
number of corporate environmental management to overcome those problems.

Creating technological innovation via green supply chain

management: An empirical analysis.
This study sets out to empirically test the research framework and identify the
relationship between green supply chain management (GSCM) practices and
technological innovation (TI) in manufacturing firms. It is one of the first studies
that experimentally validate the relationship between GSCM practices and TI
from the perspective of a developing nation. In this study, 133 usable sets of data
were collected from manufacturing firms in Malaysia. Results obtained from the
partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach supported
the significant positive relationship between three GSCM practices and
technological innovation (TI) in manufacturing firms. It is one of the first studies

were collected from manufacturing firms in Malaysia. Results obtained from the
partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach supported
the significant positive relationship between three GSCM practices (i.e. internal
environmental management, eco design and investment recovery) and TI, but the
study found that green purchasing and cooperation with customers do not have a
significant positive correlation with TI. The importance of GSCM practices has
been proven to enhance firms' TI, in addition to improving the environment,
bringing about a positive impact on the manufacturing establishment. Therefore,
this study has relevance to all manufactures seeking to enhance their TI through
the effective use of GSCM practices.

Performance measurement for green supply chain management.

To introduce and provide an overview of the various issues related to
environmental (green) supply chain management performance measurement. The
work relies on experiences, case studies and other literature related to
performance measurement in environmental supply chains. It seeks to integrate
works in supply chain management, environmental management, and
performance management into one framework. A systems framework forms the
discussion outline with a focus on controls/pressures, inputs, tools, and outputs as
major categories for evaluation and review. Provides an integrative framework for
study, design and evaluation of green supply chain management performance
tools. The findings also identify a number of issues that need to still be addressed.
provided. There is limited research in this area and new and current
models/developments can provide additional insight. Implications of the work is
that these gaps exist and that significantly more work needs to be completed in
this field. A very useful source of information for practitioners that seek to
implement these systems within and between organizations. Also, the paper
provides numerous areas which researchers could complete additional research
and develop research agendas. This paper provides some of the very first insights
into development of a green supply chain management performance measurement
system. Typically, performance measurement systems are internally and business
focused, we expand on these issues by considering interorganizational and
environmental issues within a business context.

Green supply chain management; Critical research and practices

The waste and emissions caused by the supply chain have become the main sources
of serious environmental problems including global warming and acid rain. Green
supply chain policies are desirable since reactive regulatory, to proactive strategic
and competitive advantages. The novelty of this topic makes it difficult to truly
determine contradictory and conflicting issues that could be considered true
"debates". We will present some of the debates that do occur, but this paper appraisal
of investigation, practice and evaluation of green supply chain management.

Greening the supply chain

Since the Rio Summit in 1992 the paradigm of corporate environmental
responsibility has gradually and ever more consistently extended beyond
complying with increasingly stringent environmental regulation and also beyond
the taking up of proactive initiatives by a few world-class companies. There are
multiple reasons for this, not least of which is that current research indicates that
the business and financial performance of companies may depend directly on
socially and environmentally responsible business practices. Thus, companies
are under increasing competitive and other pressures to continuously search for
new ideas and methods allowing them to achieve and/or maintain environmental
sustainability. Greening the supply chain is one such innovative idea that is fast
gaining attention in the industry. This attention may be attributed to many
companies realising they have to do something more than applying traditional
internal measures of implementing waste reduction strategies, installing
pollution control technologies, replacing hazardous-material inputs with
environmentally friendly alternatives and so on. Many of the positive effects of
internal measures have already been achieved by leading corporations. Now the
goal has begun to shift to integrating all of the business value adding operations,
including purchasing and in-bound logistics, production and manufacturing,
distribution and out-bound logistics, in such a way that activities associated with
these functions have the least harmful environmental impact. This is one of the
basic tenets of the philosophy of greening the supply chain that is critical for the
successful implementation of industrial ecosystems and ecology. There is also
another reason why the greening of the supply chain is gaining popularity with
industry. Many world-class companies now realise that customers and other
stakeholders do not distinguish between a company and its suppliers. According
to Bacallan (2000), although they may have nothing to do at all with the problem,
companies are often held accountable for the labour practices and the
environmental liabilities of their suppliers'.

Blockchain technology and its relationships to sustainable supply

chain management.
Globalisation of supply chains makes their management and control more
difficult. Blockchain technology, as a distributed digital ledger technology which
ensures transparency, traceability, and security, is showing promise for easing
some global supply chain management problems. In this paper, blockchain
technology and smart contracts are critically examined with potential application
to supply chain management. Local and global government, community, and
consumer pressures to meet sustainability goals prompt us to further investigate
how blockchain can address and aid supply chain sustainability. Part of this
critical examination is how blockchains, a potentially disruptive technology that
is early in its evolution, can overcome many potential barriers. Four blockchain
technology adoption barriers categories are introduced; inter organisational,
intra-organisational, technical, and external barriers. True blockchain-led
transformation of business and supply chain is still in progress and in its early
stages; we propose future research propositions and directions that can provide
insights into overcoming barriers and adoption of blockchain technology for
supply chain management.

A strategic decision framework for green supply chain

management

The number of organizations contemplating the integration of environmental

practices into their strategic plans and daily operations is continuously
increasing. Numerous initiatives have provided incentives for organizations to
become more environmentally benign. Some of these regulations driven
programs are mandatory, but increasingly numerous voluntary environmental
programs are also introduced by organizations. Organizations view many of
these environmental programs, which may include technological and
organizational development projects, as possible alternatives for gaining or
maintaining a competitive advantage. One environmental program area that
continues to gain in importance is one that focuses on the external relationships
among organizations. To help evaluate alternatives that will effect this
relationship we present a strategic decision framework that will aid managerial
decision-making. This decision framework is based on literature and practice in
the area of environmentally conscious business practices. The focus of this paper
will be on the components and elements of green supply chain management and
how they serve as a foundation for the decision framework. We shall explore the
applicability of a dynamic non-linear maldistributed decision model, defined as
the analytical network process, for decision making within the green supply
chain. Issues facing the modelling approach are also discussed.

The concept of sustainability has been highly valued by all aspects of life, while
the supply chain plays a critical role in production and logistics. Supply chain
management (SCM) is continuously transformed by information technology
(IT). The purpose of this study is to review and discuss the effect of information
technology-based SCM on sustainability. This paper conducted a systematic
literature review by collecting authoranchored keywords from peer reviewed
articles on IT-based supply chain management. A total of 1264 articles and 2575
keywords from eleven supply chain related journals were analysed with social.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Anil S Dube says that Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) defines as the
process of using environmentally friendly inputs and transforming these inputs into
outputs that can be reclaimed and re-used at the end of their life cycle thus, creating
a sustainable supply chain. GSCM is one of the recent innovations for the
enhancement of capabilities of Supply Chain Management. The purpose of this
paper is to briefly review the literature of the green supply chain management
(GSCM) over the last thirty years.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Blecker says that However due to the recent developments for
e.g. high fuel prices, the need for green co-modal and intermodal logistic concepts,
smaller consignment sizes, etc., new challenges arose. These are often of complex
nature, like the expected increase in freight transport volume and the respective
impact on the environment and on the life of citizens, especially taking into
consideration that Green House Gases (GHG) emissions, noise and dust caused by
freight transport are already a problem today, contributing with one third of all
transport emissions in the EU (European Commission, 2010a). Innovation is a key
factor for addressing these challenges and thus it is of utmost importance that the
innovation potential can be fully accessed in order to nurture inter modality and
comodality (Behrends, 2009) as well as to improve the productivity, since the
efficiency within this sector improves less than average.

Zhu and Sarkis is defined the GSCM has a ranged from green purchasing to
integrated
Supply chains starting from suppliers, to manufacturer, to customer and reverse
logistics, which is “closing the loop”

HelenWalker,LucioDi Sistob,DarianMcBainc “Drivers and barriers to

environmental supply chain management practices: Lessons from the public and
private sectors”
This study explores the factors that drive or hinder organisations to implement green
supply chain management initiatives. A literature review identifies the main
categories of internal and external drivers of green supply chain management
practices, including organisational factors, regulation, customers, competitors and
society, but there is little indication of suppliers as drivers for green supply chain
management. Internal barriers include cost and lack of legitimacy, whereas external
barriers include regulation, poor supplier commitment and industry specific barriers.
An explorative study is conducted based on interviews from seven different private
and public sector organisations. Encouragingly, across the organisations, more
drivers than barriers to environmental supply chain management are identified.
Organisations seem to be more influenced by external rather than internal drivers. The
barriers to environmental supply chain management experienced by organisations
tend to be both internal and external.

management: framework and further research directions”

This paper argues for the use of Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM) in
sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). The literature has identified
antecedents and drivers for the adoption of SSCM. However, there is relatively little
research on methodological approaches and techniques that take into account the
dynamic nature of SSCM and bridge the existing quantitative/qualitative divide. To
address this gap, this paper firstly systematically reviews the literature on SSCM
drivers; secondly, it argues for the use of alternative methods research to address
questions related to SSCM drivers; and thirdly, it proposes and illustrates the use of
TISM and Cross Impact Matrix-multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC)
analysis to test a framework that extrapolates SSCM drivers and their relationships.
The framework depicts how drivers are distributed in various levels and how a
particular driver influences the other through transitive links. The paper concludes
with limitations and further research directions.

THE STUDY ON INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES OF EFFECTIVE&ECOFRIENDLY SUPPLY
CHAIN LOGISTICS

DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH
The main process of this method is that the researcher has to report what is
happening and what has happened.

UNIVERSE:
The focus of the study is the people or workers related to logistics area. Here
we find out by collecting data from the logistics area. This makes more useful
and give more ideas in GSCM.

SAMPLING DESIGN:
A sampling design is a process of framework that serves as the basis of selection
of a sample survey in logistics area that affects other important aspects of the
survey is formed. This provides the basic plan and methodology for selecting
the sample. There are some process of sampling design such as Sampling Unit,
Sampling Method, and Sample Size.

Sampling Unit:
Sampling unit is one of the units into which an aggregate method is divided for
the purpose of sampling, and each unit is being regarded as individual and
unable to separate when the selection is made.

Sampling Method:
Sampling method is a procedure for selecting sample members from a
population. There are three common sampling methods are: Simple Random
Sampling, Stratified Sampling, and Cluster Sampling.

In this study, the sample members are chosen from a population by convenience
sampling method for data collection. The convenience sampling method is a
type of non-probability sampling method that involves the sample being drawn
from that part of the population that is close to hand. This is used to identify the
sample respondents from total population.

Sampling Size:
The number of sampling units which are to be included in the sample. Here 40
respondents are selected to collect the information.

DATA COLLECTION:
Data collection is a process of collecting information from all the relevant
sources to find answers to the research problem. The main source of an
information for this study is based on the data collection. Data collected are
both primary and secondary in nature.

Primary Data:
Primary data is data that is collected by a researcher from first-hand sources,
using methods like surveys, interviews, or experiments. This data is also known
as raw data. The primary data is collected through questionnaire.

Secondary Data:
Secondary data is the data that is collected through primary sources and made
readily available for researchers to use for their own research. Those common
sources of secondary data include, information collected in various
departments. Such analysis is taken from research purposes, information from
books, journals information from web or internet etc. and other publications
related in this topic.

TOOLS USED FOR ANALYSIS:

In the data collection and analysis tool, this process is defined in series of charts,
diagrams, maps that are designed to collect, to explain, and to present the data
for analysis and industries. Here, the Percentage analysis is one of the basic
statistical tools which is widely used in analysis and interpretation of primary
data. It deals with the number of respondent’s response to a particular question
is percentage arrived from the total population selected for the study.

• The respondents say that the top managers are familiar with Green Supply Chain
Management (GSCM).

• Majority of the respondents of an organization use Green Supply Chain

Management (GSCM).

• Most of the employees use the Reverse Logistics (Disposition options such as
repair, reconditioned manufacture, recycle and disposal).

• Most of the respondents has 20-199 Employees.

• Majority of the respondents has ‘Information, Media, Telecommunication’ and

‘Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste services’ as a primary type of business
conducted by the organization.

• The respondents are strongly agreed in ‘IT/IS teams’ capabilities to perform IT/IS
projects’ related to GSCM practices.

• The respondents are agreed in ‘Main competitors that are implemented

environmental management practices’, ‘GSCM practices for legal compliance’,

SUGGESTIONS
There are some recommendations on the basis of survey

• It is necessary to gain reputation for the company and satisfaction for self.
• It is very much innovative and effective. And this process is good in
recycling and saving our environment. So that we need more process that is
used in eco-friendly supply chain.

• There are some innovative technologies that transforming the logistics

industry such as Automation, Robotics, Wearable Technology, Drones, Self
–Driving vehicles, LED lighting (That use 75% less energy, last 25 times
longer) Cloud computing, etc. So that we need more innovative
technologies eco-friendly supply chain products that can be very much
effective in Green and ecofriendly Supply Chain.

• Need to recycle the corrugated materials such as cardboard boxes, which is

difficult to decompose. The more corrugated materials given to paper mills,
the fewer raw materials needed to produce new boxes. This keeps their
operating costs low, and it could lead to lower costs for new corrugated
products. While corrugated materials currently have a 93% recovery rate,
any boxes that are given back to paper mills will further drive the costs of
new boxes down.
• Need to reduce paper consumption through RF and RFID. Many of the
operations have employed the RF and RFID technologies to go paperless.
This is been created more sustainability in multiple areas of SCM, from
receiving the quality and to picking and dock auditing. This is the main
function in Green Supply Chain Management.

THESTUDY ON INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES OF EFFECTIVE AND
ECOFRIENDLY SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICS

CONCLUSION
Here the overall results reveal that the Green Supply Chain Management or an
Eco-friendly Supply Chain Management use the reverse logistics (Disposition
options such as repair, reconditioned manufacture, recycle and disposal) and
they rated their ideas are very much innovative in this modern world. This has
been said because the supply chain are trying to find the most efficient solutions
to problems. Cutting warehousing costs or finding cost-effective ways of
providing same-day shipping, are such process that is been similar to this Green
Supply Chain Management. Some IT/IS teams capabilities are strongly agreed
to perform IT/IS projects that is related to GSCM. Also that the Mastered IT/IS
team is necessary for project. And those employees are planning to consider the
purchased raw materials and Purchased projects that are eco-friendly to the
environment. The main findings that I found out that the GSCM or an
Ecofriendly Supply Chain Management is useful in modern business
management.
