THE STUDY ON INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES OF EFFECTIVE&ECOFRIENDLY SUPPLY
CHAIN LOGISTICS
CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
The term “Supply Chain Management” was coined in 1982 by Keith Oliver of Booz,
Allen and Hamilton Inc. But the discipline and practice has been in existence for
centuries. The terms Logistics and Supply Chain Management are used
interchangeably these days, but there is a subtle difference that exists between the
two. ‘Logistics’ has a military origin, and used to be associated with the movement
of troops and their supplies in the battlefield. But like so many other technologies
and terminologies, it entered into the business lexicon gradually and has now become
synonymous with the set of activities ranging from procurement of raw materials, to
the delivery of the final polished good to the end consumer. In a typical business
scenario, many organizations work in tandem (knowingly or unknowingly) to get the
final product in hand of the end consumer. The supply chain is a network of these
organizations that coalesce with each other (downstream or upstream) to make the
final shipment successful. A group of farmers, a cotton mill, a designer and a tailor
is the least number of stakeholders you can expect from a regular shirt you wear
every day.
The term “Supply Chain Management” was coined in 1982 by Keith Oliver of
Booz, Allen and Hamilton Inc. But the discipline and practice has been in
existence for centuries.
With a growing market demand for various products in the latter half of the 20th
century, many organizations ventured into risky but frugally profitable modes of
production, compromising long-term impacts both on society and the
environment. The effects of supply chains on environmental issues have been a
focal point in discussions involving stakeholders, authorities, and customers. Eco
friendly supply chain solutions support the automated checking of all freight costs
objectively, professionally and comparatively. In this organization, it has
enormous opportunities to grow beyond the expectations. Thus, an automatic
check can be made to see whether the transport invoiced for has really taken place
and whether the weight, capacity and tariff are correct. In such a case, the
innovative techniques of effective and eco-friendly supply chain is used in it. It
can also use green supply chain management practices in the eco-friendly supply
chain logistics. Both the local and international customers and buyers are now
requiring their suppliers to make environmentally friendly products. The
increasing awareness from communities on the environmental problems also has
created this matter becoming more critical to companies. Besides, the European
Union has developed a range of environmental regulations such as the Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances
(ROHS), and Eco-design for Energy using Products (EUP) directives. These
directives will forbid manufacturers from selling the products that contains
hazardous materials onto the markets. So that the companies started to execute a
number of corporate environmental management to overcome those problems.
The concept of sustainability has been highly valued by all aspects of life, while
the supply chain plays a critical role in production and logistics. Supply chain
management (SCM) is continuously transformed by information technology
(IT). The purpose of this study is to review and discuss the effect of information
technology-based SCM on sustainability. This paper conducted a systematic
literature review by collecting authoranchored keywords from peer reviewed
articles on IT-based supply chain management. A total of 1264 articles and 2575
keywords from eleven supply chain related journals were analysed with social.
The purpose of this study is to review and discuss the effect of information
technology-based SCM on sustainability. This paper conducted a systematic
literature review by collecting author-anchored keywords from peer reviewed
articles on ITbased supply chain management. A total of 1264 articles and 2575
keywords from eleven supply chain related journals were analysed with social
network analysis. A knowledge map with ten research hot topics was identified.
Additionally, a sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) model is
developed not only to guide researchers to further understand IT-based SCM
topical and structural meanings but also to contribute to enlightening a coherent
and rigorous body of theories relevant to academics and supply chain and
logistics managers interested in SSCM.
CHAPTER-2
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Anil S Dube says that Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) defines as the
process of using environmentally friendly inputs and transforming these inputs into
outputs that can be reclaimed and re-used at the end of their life cycle thus, creating
a sustainable supply chain. GSCM is one of the recent innovations for the
enhancement of capabilities of Supply Chain Management. The purpose of this
paper is to briefly review the literature of the green supply chain management
(GSCM) over the last thirty years.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Blecker says that However due to the recent developments for
e.g. high fuel prices, the need for green co-modal and intermodal logistic concepts,
smaller consignment sizes, etc., new challenges arose. These are often of complex
nature, like the expected increase in freight transport volume and the respective
impact on the environment and on the life of citizens, especially taking into
consideration that Green House Gases (GHG) emissions, noise and dust caused by
freight transport are already a problem today, contributing with one third of all
transport emissions in the EU (European Commission, 2010a). Innovation is a key
factor for addressing these challenges and thus it is of utmost importance that the
innovation potential can be fully accessed in order to nurture inter modality and
comodality (Behrends, 2009) as well as to improve the productivity, since the
efficiency within this sector improves less than average.
Zhu and Sarkis is defined the GSCM has a ranged from green purchasing to
integrated
Supply chains starting from suppliers, to manufacturer, to customer and reverse
logistics, which is “closing the loop”
F. Robert Jacobs -Operations and supply chain management The fifteenth edition
of Operations and Supply Chain Management provides well-balanced coverage of
managing people and applying sophisticated technology to operations and supply
chain management. Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers
students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need, when they
need it, and how they need it, so that your class time is more engaging and effective.
This paper argues for the use of Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM) in
sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). The literature has identified
antecedents and drivers for the adoption of SSCM. However, there is relatively little
research on methodological approaches and techniques that take into account the
dynamic nature of SSCM and bridge the existing quantitative/qualitative divide. To
address this gap, this paper firstly systematically reviews the literature on SSCM
drivers; secondly, it argues for the use of alternative methods research to address
questions related to SSCM drivers; and thirdly, it proposes and illustrates the use of
TISM and Cross Impact Matrix-multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC)
analysis to test a framework that extrapolates SSCM drivers and their relationships.
The framework depicts how drivers are distributed in various levels and how a
particular driver influences the other through transitive links. The paper concludes
with limitations and further research directions.
CHAPTER-3
RESEARCH DESIGN
The Research design is a systemic process to solve the problems. It is also the
procedure or the techniques used to find out, select and analyse the information
about topic. This is about how a researcher systematically designs a study to
ensure valid and reliable results that address the research aims and objectives.
Here the plan is an outline scheme in which the outline has to work.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
SECODARY OBJECTIVE
DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH
The main process of this method is that the researcher has to report what is
happening and what has happened.
UNIVERSE:
The focus of the study is the people or workers related to logistics area. Here
we find out by collecting data from the logistics area. This makes more useful
and give more ideas in GSCM.
SAMPLING DESIGN:
A sampling design is a process of framework that serves as the basis of selection
of a sample survey in logistics area that affects other important aspects of the
survey is formed. This provides the basic plan and methodology for selecting
the sample. There are some process of sampling design such as Sampling Unit,
Sampling Method, and Sample Size.
Sampling Unit:
Sampling unit is one of the units into which an aggregate method is divided for
the purpose of sampling, and each unit is being regarded as individual and
unable to separate when the selection is made.
Sampling Method:
Sampling method is a procedure for selecting sample members from a
population. There are three common sampling methods are: Simple Random
Sampling, Stratified Sampling, and Cluster Sampling.
In this study, the sample members are chosen from a population by convenience
sampling method for data collection. The convenience sampling method is a
type of non-probability sampling method that involves the sample being drawn
from that part of the population that is close to hand. This is used to identify the
sample respondents from total population.
Sampling Size:
The number of sampling units which are to be included in the sample. Here 40
respondents are selected to collect the information.
DATA COLLECTION:
Data collection is a process of collecting information from all the relevant
sources to find answers to the research problem. The main source of an
information for this study is based on the data collection. Data collected are
both primary and secondary in nature.
Primary Data:
Primary data is data that is collected by a researcher from first-hand sources,
using methods like surveys, interviews, or experiments. This data is also known
as raw data. The primary data is collected through questionnaire.
Secondary Data:
Secondary data is the data that is collected through primary sources and made
readily available for researchers to use for their own research. Those common
sources of secondary data include, information collected in various
departments. Such analysis is taken from research purposes, information from
books, journals information from web or internet etc. and other publications
related in this topic.
