Youth is the transition between childhood and adulthood. According to the World Health
Organization, it goes from 10 to 19 years old, and it is a fundamental phase of the growth and
development of living beings. Throughout this period, anatomical, physiological, psychological
and social changes are experienced, which occur instantaneously. It is a vulnerable period during
which young people have the possibility of engaging in sexual practices without having the
correct information or communication in the family environment, added to the beliefs in myths
and taboos that trigger inquiry and curiosity for new experiences. These components expose
young people to dangerous situations in the sexual field, such as the spread of Sexually
Transmitted Infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies due to not using the correct defense.
However, from a physiological perspective, the cervical lining in young females and adolescent
females makes them more predisposed to STIs. YOUNG PEOPLE experience problems in this
area because there are inconveniences in obtaining data on health services and the necessary
supplies they need to avoid STIs. In addition, there are barriers to accessing STI prevention
services, since they do not know where to find them, do not have convenient transportation,
cannot afford the services, or do not feel comfortable in places where they have the opportunity
to judge them.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to grow throughout the world; they are affecting

people of different ages, sex, race and social class. On the planet, there are about 340 million
people damaged.
The seriousness that a patient with HIV/AIDS can reach is popularly popular, however there are
many other sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis or the human papillomavirus (HPV)
that are a health risk if a test is not done. visit the doctor on time.
In Peru, the prevalence of STIs is considered between 30% and 45% of the population. The teams
most likely to get infected are young people, sex workers, prisoners and homosexuals. Young
people are the most likely to get infections, since the development of their immune system is still
incomplete. In 2012, the Peruvian Ministry of Health indicated that 19.5% of young people in
metropolitan Lima have already had their first sexual interaction; on some occasions, they do not
have a clear initiative of how it happened, because they only sought pleasure.
In that environment, the purpose of this analysis has been to assess the degree of knowledge of
young people in Peru about sexually transmitted infections and the measures to prevent them.
