LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Explain in simple language connections between characters, places, or events in
texts and their own lives
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Pupils list down all the methods of earning money.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Ask pupils to write their name at the top of a page of notepaper.
Tell them to write down two characters, two places and two events
from the story they have read.
2. Tell them to pass their paper to the person next to them. Tell
them to read the words and connect two of them with an arrow,
adding a few words which explains the link, e.g. between a person
and a place they might write lives here or had an accident here.
3. Tell them to pass the paper on to the next person. Repeat the
task.
4. Repeat this another 3 or 4 times.
5. Tell the pupils to pass the paper back to the original person.
6. Put the pupils into pairs. Ask them to look at the lines and notes
on their page to read the connections. Tell them to explain to each
other what the connections are between the different elements of
the story.
POST LESSON Pupils list down all the odd jobs in the novel.
