6.2 Function
The purpose of the infeed drum is to take the
sheet from the swing gripper and transfer it in
perfect register to the impression cylinder.

The infeed drum is equipped with a gripper

system.

The height of the gripper pad bar is adjustable to

conform to the thickness of the substrate.

The gripper shaft is controlled by a cam at the A

side.

Backlash is eliminated by a backlash gear on

the infeed drum to the impression cylinder gear.

The infeed drum is mounted on needle bearings

at both A and B sides.

The control cam for the swing gripper gripper

shaft is mounted on the inside of the B side.

The control cam for the cover guides is mounted

on the outside of the B side.

The eccentric for the swing gripper movement is

positioned on the outside of the A side.

• Unscrew the cover plate in front of the cover

guide cam B side.

The cover plate is sealed to the sideframe with a

sealing compound.

• Use a screw to release the pressure on the

torsion spring at the roller lever of the cover
guide control.

• Dismount the cover guide eccentric (3).

Dismount the gripper system (2)

• Remove the sheet guide.

• Relax the torsion bar spring (2).

• Take out the taper pins and screws from the

semi-shells (1) of the gripper system (2).

The gripper system is heavy.

Be sure to use suitable lifting equipment to

prevent it falling and causing injury.

6.4 Fitting the infeed drum

B side A side

M7ANT001d

• Slide the shaft of the infeed drum in through

the boring in the A side sideframe.

• Slide the cam holder (5) onto the shaft.

• Insert the shaft in the bearing bushing on the

B side and prop it.

Be sure the shaft is properly and firmly

supported.

• Mount bearing bushing (6) at the A side.

• Fasten it to the sideframe with screws.

• Open adjusting nut (9).

• Mount thrust bearing (7) and gear (8).

Pay attention to the teeth engagement position.

The gear is pinned to the shaft.

• Use the backlash gear to eliminate backlash

(0.02 mm play in between, make sure the
eliminating direction is correct) ?

• Concentricity and horizontal run-out max.

0.02 mm.

• Bring cam holder (5) on the B side into

position and pin it.

• Mount the cover guide eccentric (3).

• Turn the press into position.

• Mount the complete gripper system (2) on

the shaft and screw and pin it to the semi-
shells (1).

• Tension the torsion bar spring of the infeed

drum (48Nm, can be seen on the index hole).

• Mount the cover plate for the cover guide

6.5 Setting the grippers

During all setting work the press must be
secured against turning.

• Turn the press to setting position 356°.

• Set the scale to 0.2.

• Insert a 1 mm feeler gauge between the

roller and the cam.

• Loosen the gripper locking screw.

• Check the gripper pretensioning is 48 Nm

(2.5 mm distance between clamping ring and
housing).

• Press the grippers against the pads.

• Tighten the clamping screws.

• Loosen gripper contact to the gripper pads.

• Set the grippers with 0.03 mm Japan paper.

• Remove the feeler gauge.

Checking transfer from the swing

gripper to infeed drum
• Turn the press into position gauge no. 3
(center of transfer = 78°).

• Infeed drum grippers must close 1.5 ± 0.2

mm before center of transfer.

Mark the values on the bearer with a marking

gauge and pencil.

If the transfer distance is too long or too short,

the gripper settings must be checked.

Correct the position of the gripper opening cam

if necessary.

6.6 Transfer from infeed drum to

impression cylinder
• Check impression cylinder gripper settings.

• Turn press to gauge no. 8 position (center of

transfer = 220°).
- Infeed drum grippers must open 1.5 + 0.5
mm after center of transfer.

Mark the values on the bearer with a marking

gauge and pencil.

If the transfer distance is too long or too short,

this must be corrected by adjusting the cam half.

Mounting the swing gripper eccentric

• Turn the press to gauge no. 6 position
(corresponds to press 0° position).

• Mount both swing gripper eccentrics and

reference them to each other with 16 mm Ø
locating bolt.
With gauge no 18 between the bearing bolt of
the swing gripper roller lever and the reference
bolt of the eccentric, set the position of the
eccentric.

Mounting feeder drive 0°

• Mount the feeder drive.

• Reference the eccentric for frontlay control to

the A side sideframe with an 8 mm Ø bolt
(corresponds to press 0° position).

Mounting the cams for the cover

guides
- The control cam for the cover guides is
positioned on the outside of the infeed drum
at the B side.

• Screw and pin the cam to the infeed drum.

Setting the height of the gripper pad

bar
• Mount three separate auxiliary gripper pads
in the impression cylinder (tapped holes are
provided).

• Loosen and swing away the grippers at the

infeed drum that face the pads mounted in
the impression cylinder.

• Set the adjustment screw for adjusting the

height of the gripper pad bar to 0.2.

• Turn the press to center of transfer 220°.
