Emily King Statement of intent

Brief chosen: Film magazine and website.

Product 1

On my first magazine cover I am going to be featuring an upcoming romance film, I am going to use a
photo of the main characters taken on a beach to create a more drastic image. Using a beach means
using a range of cool and warm colours which will help catch the eye of people who read the cover
as there will be a contrast in tones. I plan to base my whole colour pallet off of different colour
contrasts, with the mast head being a bright red and a dark blue, both colours that connotate
something more serious. As I want the magazine to present as more professional like a vogue
magazine would, being more minimalistic and not filled with ads. I am using a range of unique
typefaces which will catch the eyes of readers, having a more unique look to them to also make
them more recognisable and interesting. I am using two actors who are able to give representation
to other cultures or ethnicities that may not feel seen or related too in the film industry. I am using
Stuart halls representation theory on both magazines covers as in the theory it talks about being a
stereo type based on what has circulated over a period of time, and how it’s not always true as each
person has their own individuality. Like in my second front cover it’s meant to represent an
upcoming film producer who is a part of the lgbtq community, and battling stereotypes of what he
should have done with his career. The magazines are trendy and star some young actors who are
rising to fame so my target audience will likely find this interesting.

Product 2

My website is going to have a white background and be minimalistic, and mainly have colours which
fit the mast head so that there is an ongoing theme. It also makes it less messy and confusing to look
at. The nav bar will have a link to a YouTube video about the magazine as well as both issues of the
magazine with a preview of their covers inside. The main home page will have previews of the
articles and some other interesting topics. I am going to meet the needs and expectations of my
audience by having an easy to use and interesting website that isn’t over complicated and filled with
unnecessary information. There will also be some links to social media such as Instagram.
