Banten Provincial Government Permit Indoor Children’s Play Areas in Malls
Back to Operate

QBig Funworld Adventure Playground is located in Indonesia’s sixth-largest city in

the nation and has been one of the most popular tourist attractions in the province. QBig
Funworld Adventure Playground is claimed as the most complete and widest indoor
children’s playground in Banten and has always been packed by visitors before the pandemic,
even on weekdays. After almost more than a year shut down due to the pandemic, QBig
Funworld Adventure is reopening after Banten Provincial Government allowed indoor
playgrounds to operate again amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are number of restrictions on the playground, and not all game machines and
rides are activated. Some rides that require more than one player or allow physical contact
with other players aren’t allowed to be operated. Other than that, game machines which
allowed to be played by the visitors are also equipped with a plastic partition as a separator to
minimize contact between visitors. There are hand sanitizers provided by the management at
several points in the area, including the entrance. One of the visitors said that she and her
kids’ temperature was checked first by the staff before entering the area. They were also
required to fill in the data record by providing their name, telephone number, and travel
history for the past few weeks. The operating hour is until 8.00 p.m local time or follows the
mall operating hours.

Despite being equipped with strict health protocols, it seems that visitors are still
afraid to come because previously, children's playgrounds were classified as one of the places
prone to COVID-19 transmission. QBig Funworld Adventure area still looks deserted, and
the number of visitors is still far from average. Visitors are primarily teenagers above fifteen
years old, and children or toddlers are rarely seen, although nearly half of the rides and games
are for children below the age of ten. The lack of children visitors may be triggered by fear of
the mutation of the new coronavirus. According to the news reports in the media, the new
variant of the coronavirus from England has entered Indonesia, and children are very
vulnerable to this new type of corona.
