Reporting to the Director, Support Services at Iqaluit Health Services (IHS), the purpose of this
specialized position is to function as a primary contact for Biomedical Engineering Services at IHS,
located within the Qikiqtani General Hospital (QGH) for all clinical and support services departments
and community health centers. The Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the biomedical
engineering department and participates in setting up annual goals and objectives related to
supporting the growth and development of services in response to the equipment support needs of
the organization.
This position will provide leadership in planning for medical device capital expenditures and enable
broader procurement of these devices to ensure that facilities realize efficiencies in terms of medical
equipment, reinvestment of potential savings, and increase quality and infection control services,
which will lead to improved client, patient, and resident outcomes. This position is also accountable
for ensuring specialized biomedical patient care equipment is maintained in a safe and optimal
condition which has direct impact on the safety and comfort of client, patient, resident, families and
the communities in Nunavut. Other duties of the position include developing and implementing
biomedical engineering standardized policies and procedures; planning, implementing, and
overseeing the biomedical budget as well as assisting, supporting and coaching staff with proper
inspecting and or repair procedures and ensuring quick and effective return to operation status for all
biomedical devices.
The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this position are usually obtained through a
minimum completion of a three (3) year Diploma in Biomedical Engineering technology program or
equivalent that is accredited by Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (STAB) along with three
(3) years of work experience as a biomedical engineering technologist or equivalent in a hospital
setting as well as one (1) year supervisory experience in a Biomedical department in a hospital setting.
The successful applicant must be certified by the Regional/Provincial Association of Certified
Engineering Technicians and Technologist as CET along with CBET certification by ICC (International
Certification Commission) or complete CBET within two (2) years of start date. A University Degree in
Biomedical Engineering as well as membership in Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering
Society will be considered as assets along with previous experience in customer service environment.
OEM service training on medical equipment such as ventilators, patient monitors or ECG machines is
also considered as an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record
Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their
