original packaging material. If the product is still within the warranty
period, we will return the product prepaid after servicing.
Chapter 1
Introduction
Overview
The VSD / VSE6800+ is a serial digital video distribution amplifier. The
VSD / VSE6800+ provides one SDI video input and eight SDI video
outputs.
The following topics are described in this chapter:
• “Product Description” on page 2
• “Main Features” on page 2
• “Module Descriptions” on page 3
• “Signal Flow” on page 5
Product Description
VSD6800+ and VSE6800+ are serial digital video distribution
amplifiers in the 6800+ family. These modules have one differential
input and eight outputs.
• The VSD6800+ is a serial digital video distribution amplifier with
cable equalizing.
• The VSE6800+ is a serial digital video distribution amplifier with
cable equalizing and reclocking.
Both DAs feature high video performance, low cost, remote control,
and diagnostic capability in Leitch's control system.
• The VSD6800+ can distribute any 10 – 540Mb / s data within the
amplitude limitation.
• The VSE6800+ handles 143 Mb / s, 177 Mb / s, 270 Mb / s, 360
Mb / s, and 540Mb Mb / s serial digital video signals; and ASI signal
(4 outputs only).
You can set up, control, and monitor the VSD/VSE6800+ either locally
via card-edge jumper or remotely on a PC. For remote control, you can
use either a serial RS-232 or optional ICE6800+ Ethernet connection.
Main Features
VSD / VSE6800+
• Input signal presence detect
• Automatic cable equalization
• Alarm output
VSE6800+ Only
• Automatic / manual relock rate select at 143 / 177 / 270 / 360 / 540

Making Connections
Once you have installed your VSD / VSE6800+ modules, you can
connect them to the appropriate input and outputs.
Chapter 3
Operation
Overview
This chapter describes how to operate the VSD / VSE6800+ using
card-edge controls only. See the following Leitch documents for
information on how to operate this product remotely:
• +Pilot Lite User Manual for serial control interface
• CCS™ Navigator™, Pilot™, CoPilot™, or RCP-CCS-1U Remote

control interface
The following topics are discussed in this chapter:
• “Changing Parameter Settings” on page 20
• “LEDs and Alarms” on page 21
• “Operating Notes” on page 17
• “Setting Parameters” on page 18
• “Understanding Jumper Controls” on page 14
• “Understanding Parameter Types” on page 16
Local Control
The local control is used to select one of three reclocking setting modes
Note by a jumper at the board edge: automatic, manual, and bypass.
In the local control reclock • The automatic reclocking setting mode automatically reclocks the

• The bypass mode allows you to force the input data to take the
bypass path, whether it is locked or not.
Remote Control

mode manually, set the jumper

Adjustable Parameters
Two types of adjustable parameters can be changed using the card-edge
controls:
• Numerical parameters—which require you to select a value within
a numerical range
• Selectable parameters—which require you to select a specific
option
Both numerical and selectable parameter changes are immediate.
Use the available 6800+ software controls (serial / local or
Ethernet / remote network) to view and monitor parameter selections.
Read-Only Parameters
Many of the read-only parameters are also represented by LEDs on the
front of the module’s card edge. See Figure 1-1 on page 3 for the
location of these LEDs.
Operating Notes
When setting the control parameters on the VSD / VSE6800+, observe
the following:
• When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However,
the module requires up to 20 seconds to save the latest change.
After 20 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if
the module loses power and must be restarted.
When setting the control parameters on the VSE6800+, observe the
following:
• When the module is set to remote control, the reclocking mode is
controlled by the CCS control software application. When the
module powers up with remote selected, the reclocking mode is set
to the last known value.
• When the module is set to local control, the reclocking mode is
controlled by adjusting the card-edge jumper to the appropriate
setting. Reclocking mode selections are reflected in the CCS
control software application. Any remote attempts to adjust the
reclocking mode will have no effect.
• If a card-edge jumper is not installed the reclocking mode is set to
Auto.
When setting the control parameters on the VSD6800+, observe the
following:
• The module has no user settable controls. As in the VSE6800+,
status information is reflected on the card-edge LEDS and in the
CCS control software application.
Setting Parameters
Setting Locally-Accessible Parameters
Table 3-2 describes VSD / VSE6800+ parameters that are accessible
locally via an on-board jumper. See “Understanding Jumper Controls”
on page 14 for more information about setting these parameters via
jumper.
Alarms
Alarms are usually logged and monitored within the available 6800+
software control applications (for example, +Pilot Lite or Pilot). See the
appropriate software control user manual or online help for more
information.
