TONE SCALE Practice the following techniques to create tone: Shading is when you blend the media evenly onto the paper surface to create a variation from light to dark. The more media you apply, the darker the tone. Hatching is when you apply the meaia in short sharp strokes to create a tone. The more strokes you apply the darker the tone. Cross-Hatching is similar 10 hatching but this time your strokes can cross over each other. The more strokes the darker the tone. Stipple is when you apply small dots of media to the paper surface to create a tone. The more dots the darker the tone.
