LABOR DAY

Good morning everyone.

Today, we gather to celebrate Labor Day, a holiday that honors the contributions of workers to our
society and economy. This day reminds us that the progress and prosperity we enjoy as a nation are
built on the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of millions of people who toil every day to make a living
and create a better future for themselves and their families.

As we reflect on the meaning of Labor Day, we cannot ignore the challenges and opportunities that
confront us in the world of work. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5,
1882, in New York City, however In India , people started observing the day from 1 May 1923 after the
Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan initiated and Comrade Singaravelar helmed the celebrations. A
resolution stating the government should allow everybody a national holiday on Labour Day. .The
COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the fault lines and inequalities that exist in our labor market, from the
lack of job security and social protection for many workers to the digital divide and skills gap that hinder
their access to decent jobs and lifelong learning.

Therefore, on this Labor Day, we must renew our commitment to the values and principles that
underpin the dignity and rights of workers. We must strive to create a world of work that is fair,
inclusive, and sustainable, where everyone has the chance to fulfill their potential and contribute to the
common good.

To achieve this vision, we need to invest in our people, our communities, and our institutions. We need
to provide quality education and training to all, regardless of their background or circumstances. We
need to ensure that our labor laws and social policies reflect the changing nature of work and protect
the rights and interests of all workers, including those in the gig economy and informal sector. We need
to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and decent work for all, through partnerships between
governments, employers, workers, and civil society.

In conclusion, let us use this Labor Day as an occasion to celebrate the past achievements of workers
and to renew our commitment to the future of work. Let us stand in solidarity with those who struggle
for justice and dignity in their workplaces and communities. And let us work together to build a world
where every person can enjoy the fruits of their labor and live a life of meaning and purpose. Thank you.
