Introduction

As a system engineer, you are to design a factory for chocolate processing, as shown in Figure
1. LabVIEW is an ideal programming platform for this project for its versatility and
functionality.

Figure 1

Assignment Task 1

Outline the following requirements in your LABVIEW solution:

1. Process Management

a. Roasting and Winnowing

The roasting process makes the shells of the cocoa brittle, and cocoa nibs pass through a series
of sieves, which strain and sort the nibs according to size in a process called "winnowing".

b. Grinding and Mixing

The grinding process generates heat, and the dry granular consistency of the cocoa nib is then
turned into a liquid as the high amount of fat contained in the nib melts. The cocoa liquor is
mixed with cocoa butter and sugar.

c. Blending Cocoa liquor and molding Chocolate

After the mixing process, the blend is further refined to bring the particle size of the added
milk and sugar down to the desired fineness. After blending is complete, molding is the final
procedure for chocolate processing. This step allows cocoa liquor to cool and harden into
different shapes depending on the mold.

Assignment Task 2

Besides the processes above, produce the system with the following features as well:

1. Event Report
The system will update and report its log to the Headquarter after each event using write to
file / read from file in Excel format. This must be demonstrated in the report.

2. Process Monitoring
The process variables such as date, time, the number of events, the nature of events, and
the details of events are constructed using web publishing tool so that the processes can
be monitored anywhere in the world.

3. Electricity Pricing Update

Electricity pricing can vary widely by country or by locality within a country, and this is
important to indicate it a company can monitor the revenue through the power generated
by the wind farm. Hence the pricing display needs to be constructed and displayed in real-
time.

Your LABVIEW program must incorporate the following:

• Flow chart
• Arrays and clusters
• Sub VIs
• Loops
• Write to File / Read from File
• Well-organized VIs
• Error Handling

Submission

You are to submit the softcopy of the LabVIEW program along with the report. You will also
have to produce a demonstration video to show the operation of your developed program.

Grading Criteria:

The marks allocation for this assignment is as follows:

Program and Description 65%

Format 5%
Introduction 5%
Discussion, and Conclusion 10%
Demonstration 15%

APPENDIX A

General requirement on Report

• The report must be formatted with a font size of 12pt if Times New Roman or a font size
of 11pt if Arial and 1.5 line spacing. Please ensure the paragraphs are properly aligned/
justified.

• There should be a List of Tables and a List of Figures after the Table of Contents.

• The report should be in chapters and the structure should not go beyond the second level.
Instead of adding subsections at the third level, you may use bullets if required.

• All information provided must be straight to the point, precise and all information must be
cited accordingly and be well presented. Avoid any form of plagiarism.

• All figures and tables must have a title and be referenced (i.e. indicate the source if taken
from another source).

• The report must be bound.

• Please also include the following in your report:

▪ Page numbering at each page (Page X of Y)

▪ Figure and table caption font size : Times New Roman,10 pt

▪ Position of figure and table: centre-aligned.

Appendix B
Instructions to Students about Discussion, Conclusion and Reference

Discussion

In the Discussion section you should give an overall appraisal of the results of your work. It is
here that you will have the best opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the work and
to give a critical account of what has been achieved.

Conclusion

The Conclusion is a short summary of the results of your work (about 200 words). The
Conclusion should follow naturally from the Discussion. It should give a concise statement of
what has been achieved. Anticipated application of techniques developed should be
summarised very briefly. The Conclusion should be self-contained, i.e., it should not make
reference to any sections, figures, or references in the report.

References

All references to books, papers, and other publications must be fully and correctly quoted to be
useful to the reader using APA citation style.
