Essay on home education Viktória Vass

Home education
According to my opinion, home education has advantages and disadvantages equally, and it
mostly depends on one’s personality whether it is a good choice to take part in home-
schooling or not.
First of all, home education allows you some flexibility. There is no bedtime and get-up time
to get used to, you don’t need to follow a specific timetable, but instead you can write your
own one and decide how much you need to study for every subject. I believe this results in
more efficient learning, because you can quickly get through the tasks that you find easy and
spend more time on the more challenging ones. Moreover, this way of learning is certainly
more interactive than regular education, and you can enjoy the benefits of one-to-one
teaching, as students who receive home education often have a private tutor, who can shape
the lessons for the student’s own abilities and skills. Last but not least, home education can be
advantageous for those who struggle with social anxiety or any kinds of disabilities as they
can study in a peaceful, familiar environment.
Some people, on the other hand, do not think that home-schooling is beneficial for children.
Firstly, home-schooled students probably do not have many opportunities in terms of
interacting with others compared to those who attend regular schools, and they might find it
difficult to develop friendships and get in touch with people in the future as well. Another
disadvantage could be the lack of school facilities. Classes like chemistry, biology or physics
often require special materials and devices, which are not always available for home-schooled
students. Moreover, compared to public schools, where education is free, home education can
be costly as besides purchasing the appropriate study material, they must also pay for the
private tutor.
In conclusion, home-schooling can be very rewarding, even though it has some drawbacks as
well. I believe it is the parents’ responsibility to find the most suitable education form for their
child because everyone has different needs and attitude to studying.
