Friction Modifiers for Molding Applications

Plastics naturally exhibit high friction which can cause a number of challenges during molding
and in end-use of the product. These challenges can include high processing temperatures,
Friction machine wear, scratching and poor surface finish. To overcome these challenges, torque release
Modification
and mold release additives can be added during the manufacturing process.
Torque release additives
Torque release additives are used mainly used in molding applications such as for caps and
closures. They are required where bottle caps and closures need to offer a good seal while still
allowing for easy removal in end-use.
Torque release
Our Incroslip additives not only offer processor and end-use flexibility, high performance and
better quality plastics as expected, they also provide exceptional stability with reduced odour and
improved colour stability.
Key performance benefits include:
Mold release additives
• Low application and release torque
Mold release • High oxidative stability Mold release additives are designed to improve your injection molding process by reducing
• Excellent organoleptic properties friction, allowing more efficient processing and improving part quality time after time.
• Low visible bloom Our IncroMoldTM range of mold release additives can be added directly into the polymer melt or
via a masterbatch at around 0.5% to give numerous benefits in processing and finished parts.
Key benefits include:
• Consistent mold release • Improved surface finish
• Reduced cycle times • Fewer rejects and waste
• Continuous running • Reduced machine wear and cleaning
• Scratch and scuff resistance • Improved pigment dispersion
• Improved flow and dispersion of filled polymers

There are also post-molding benefits such as improved application and release torque, improved
de-nesting and reduction in assembly force.

Anti-scratch
Anti-scratch additives are proving ever-more popular due to trends in weight reduction with plastic
and the need to preserve the look and feel of that plastic, particularly in the automotive industry. The
Anti-scratch car manufacturers' challenge is to increase the lifetime of the plastic part and using scratch resistant
materials is one way to achieve this.
Our range of anti-scratch additives add value to polymers used ever more extensively in the production
of vehicles. We have additives which show benefits in a wide variety of polymer formulations to reduce
surface damage and extend the lifetime of the components. Our additives offer improved UV and heat
stability over standard additives to deliver enhanced surface attributes. No additive 0.5% Incroslip SL

Inherently Dissipative Migrating anti-static
Polymers (IDPs) additives These additives work by migrating through the polymer matrix towards the surface as it cools. At
the surface they pick up moisture from the atmosphere, providing a pathway along which charge

Ionphase permanent additives

Our Ionphase range of IDPs, also known as permanent anti-stats or ion conductive polymers, are
used when a permanent effect is required in applications such as automotive and packaging, or
where applicable standards need to be met.
These permanent anti-stats are based on a co-continuous ion conductive polymer phase. The ions
act as charge carriers within the additive, therefore dissipating the static field.

Bio-based Polyester Polyols in Elastomers & Engineering Plastics

Polyester, polycarbonate and polyamides engineering plastics

Our polyester polyol product range, PriplastTM, has been developed for the engineering polymers
market to improve impact strength and water resistance whilst maintaining the rigidity of the
polymer. Due to its low polarity, Priplast can be used as a larger soft modifier, resulting in a
two-phase structure. Soft, rubbery Priplast segments are phase separated and homogeneously
distributed in the hard plastic matrix.
Copolyamide (COPA) & copolyester (COPE) elastomers
Priplast polyester polyols also offer unique properties to copolyamide (COPA) and copolyester
(COPE) elastomers. They range from soft to semi-rigid products with good impact strength, low
temperature flexibility, chemical resistance and maintain their mechanical properties over a wide
temperature range. These elastomers are high-end block copolymers and find use in heavy-
duty sports, automotive, electronic cabling and tubing applications. Priplast is used at 5-15% to
maintain hardness of an engineering plastic, or at 20-45% in these elastomers.
COPA elastomers consist of polyamide hard segments (typically Nylon 12) and soft segments,
often polyether (PTMEG). COPE elastomers consist of polyester hard segments (typically PBT) Polyurethane elastomers
and soft segments, often polyether (PTMEG), or polyester (adipate or polycaprolactone). The
