What is the European Day of
Languages ?
The European Day of Languages organized by
the Council of Europe to celebrate linguistic and
cultural diversity and the importance of learning
languages.
When did the
European Day of Languages
start?

This event started in

2001 and it makes
people from 45 different
countries be altogether
and celebrate it!
And what’s the day we
celebrate it every year?

We celebrate it every
26th of September and13
years have passed from
the first event that was
organized.
Schools celebrate the European Day of
Languages
Various events are
organised across Europe
on 26th September :
 Activities for and with
children
 Theatre and dancing
performance
 Live shows
 Food Festivals
 Television programmes
 Language conferences.
• In our days more and
more people are
encouraged to learn
more languages, at
any age, in and out of
school.
Why is it important to learn foreign
languages?
Why should we learn foreign
languages?

• It is necessary to find a work and have better

opportunities and carrier prospects. You can
also find a job abroad and live in another
country.
• It is necessary for your preparation to enter a
college or a University in Greece and to study
abroad .
• Learning other people’s language is a way of
helping us to understand other cultures and
make new friends.
The benefits of learning foreign
languages are also that
• You become smarter and in a better mental
health. Children who have learned foreign
languages at elementary level score higher on
tests in maths, reading, and language arts.

• You can communicate with foreign people when

you travel abroad. It would be easier to find
places, ask for directions and order food and in
this way you make your travel more enjoyable.
A different language is a different
vision of life."
