3 INT. LIVING ROOM - EVENING 3

Sadie turns towards the camera to face her
father and lets out a sharp chuckle.

SADIE
Well you're clearly not
even that
fussed about watching it,
seeing as you've missed
half of it having a go at
me. Over literally
nothing.
FATHER
So, you're just going to
leave the kitchen in this
state, after I did all
the cooking? The
dishwasher needs
emptying, and the lap
trays should be wiped
down and put away.
SADIE
Why are you just changing
the subject? I didn't
even use the lap trays.
What are you on about?
FATHER
Don't be so rude, and
don't be so lazy, do the
kitchen.
SADIE
What? I've been at work
all day. What is that
supposed to mean? I've
been at work all day. On
what planet is that me
being lazy? And I've been
studying.
FATHER
It doesn't take long to
wipe down some surfaces.

SADIE
That's not the point I'm
making and you know that.

Sadie then turns into the LIVING ROOM and

looks expectantly at her the woman on the
sofa. MOTHER says nothing but pauses the TV
and turns to her Sadie. Her face is tight
with discomfort.

SADIE
Mum, don't you think he's
being ridiculous? Why
aren't you saying
anything?

BEAT.
SADIE
(aggressively)
Mother!?
FATHER
Don't you dare use that
tone of voice with your
mother. Apologies now!
What's the matter with
you?

SADIE
What do you mean?! You
were just using that tone
with me!
FATHER
Excuse-
MUM
(interrupting)
God, I just wish you two
would get along. Work
your shit out.

MUM stands up and starts to walk towards the

stairs.

SADIE
I'm so sorry mum but he
is being ridiculous, and
you just sit there. We
spoke about this. You
cannot be Switzerland -
Where are you going?!
Agh- tell him how
unreasonable he's being!

MUM leaves the room, disappearing up the

stairs.
Tears start to stream down the Sadie's face
as she turns to her FATHER.
SADIE
Maybe you'd listen if mum
told you how grumpy you
are all the time.
Especially towards me...
Where's the dad that left
for court five years ago?

The two stand facing each other in silence,

whilst tears continue to roll down Sadie's
cheeks.
BEAT.

FATHER
You've upset mum. You
need to look after her
better.

SADIE
Oh really? It's always
about mum and never me.
I'm upset too, you've
upset me! Do you ever
think about how I feel?

FATHER
What are you talking
about?
SADIE
My feelings matter too
you know, not just
mum's...

BEAT.

SADIE
Looking after us was your
job and you ballsed it
up!
BEAT.
Sadie walks away, towards the kitchen. We
hear the sound of cupboards opening, and
plates crashing as we continue on an extreme
close-up of FATHER, looking angry and
exasperated.

She comes back into the room with two lap

trays and places them behind the sofa as
FATHER walks past her towards the kitchen
and out of shot.
