F-I-N-A-L Lesson Plan TMDI CO2
Episode 1
1. Presentation of preliminary activities:
Opening prayer
Imposition of Class Rules
R – respect
O – observe silence
T – try and try until you succeed
C – cooperate
Ask students if they have preferences in terms of sitting arrangement due to some physical
difficulty (hearing, sight, height)
Motivation:
●The teacher will show to the students a video of a shadow play.
(Integration: MAPEH - Shadow play
ESP - Importance of Family and Education
“Shadow play, also known as shadow puppetry, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment
which uses flat articulated cut-out figures which are held between a source of light and a translucent
screen or scrim. The cut-out shapes of the puppets sometimes include translucent color or other types
of detailing.”
● The teacher will introduce the topic by relating the formation of shadows to the occurrence of an eclipse.
2. Statement of Purpose: This morning, you will be able to explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur
using models.
3. Presentation of the New Lesson: You are going to explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur based
on the models/pictures presented.
Episode 2
A. Review
The teacher will present a table showing a diagram of seasons in the Philippines. The students will
complete the table by filling in the empty boxes.
Answer key:
1. Northern Hemisphere
2. Towards the sun
3. Away from the sun
4. Habagat
5. Amihan
B. Pre-requisite Skill
(Integration: English/Literacy)
The students will guess the word being defined by arranging the jumbled letters.
1. L P S E C I E - a natural phenomenon that occurs when a celestial body passes through the shadow of
another celestial object
2. M R U B A - the dark inner portion of the shadow cone
3. E M P U R N A B - the lighter outer portion of the shadow cone
4. U M N A T R B A- the part of the moon’s shadow that extends beyond the umbra
5. Y S G Y Z Y - is an alignment of three celestial objects such as the sun, moon and earth in a gravitational
system.
6. R L U N A L P S E C I E - occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon and the earth's
shadow falls on the moon.
7. R L O S A L P S E C I E - happens during new moon, when the moon passes between the Earth and the
sun, blocking the sunlight from reaching certain areas on Earth.
C. Modelling
1. The teacher will demonstrate how solar and lunar eclipses occur.
Objective: After performing this activity, you should be able to explain how shadows are formed in space.
Materials Needed: >1 big ball >wood as base
>1 small ball >any white cardboard
>light source >2 pieces barbecue stick
Procedure:
1. Pierce the small ball in the middle with the barbecue stick. Then push the stick into the styrofoam block to make it
stand. The small ball represents the moon. Do the same to the big ball. The big ball represents the earth.
2. Hold the flashlight and shine it on the small ball. The distance between the flashlight and the small ball is one
footstep. Observe the small ball as you shine light on it. The flashlight represents the sun.
Teacher says: There are two types of shadows. The inner dark part is called the UMBRA, while the outer gray outer
region is the PENUMBRA.
Solar Eclipse
3. Place the Earth one footstep away from the Moon. Make sure that the Sun, Moon, and Earth are along a straight
line.
Lunar Eclipse
4. Place the Moon one footstep away from the Earth. Make sure that the Sun, Earth, and Moon are along a straight
line.
Q5: What is formed on the surface of the Moon? Why is it so?
Q6: What is the arrangement of the Earth, Moon, and Sun during Lunar Eclipse?
Q7: Based on the activity, how does lunar eclipse occur? What time of the day (daytime/night time) will lunar
eclipse occur?
Answer: “Lunar eclipse occur when the earth comes between the sun and the moon. The earth blocks the light
from the sun to reach the earth forming shadow. The area where umbra lands will experience total darkness while
the places where penumbra lands will experience partial darkness. Lunar eclipse happens during night time.”
“Solar eclipse occur when the moon comes between the sun and the earth. The moon blocks the light from the sun
to reach the earth forming shadow. The area where umbra lands will experience total darkness while the places
where penumbra lands will experience partial darkness. Solar eclipse happens during day time.”

●The teacher will present an audio-visual presentation of eclipses that recently occurred in the Philippines.

Believe it or not!
The teacher will show a list of situations where the students need to agree or disagree
The situation is based on the beliefs and practices associated with the occurrence of eclipse.
The teacher will explain that some of these situations don't have any scientific basis
Situations:
1. There are only up to 5 partial, annular, or total solar eclipses per year
2. A celestial snake swallows the sun or moon during an eclipse causing it to disappear
3. The heaven’s is giving mankind a sign of an upcoming global scale of misfortune manifested by the
darkening of the surface of the sun or moon.
4. Total solar eclipses produce harmful rays that can cause blindness.
5. Eclipses are harmful to pregnant women.
