DISKUSI 6

BAHASA INGGRIS NIAGA

After studying the sixth session topic entitled Infrastructure and also read the additional material,
please give your own opinion regarding the following issue. Lately, Indonesia has built some crucial
infrastructures like toll roads, airports, dams, etc. Please explain the effect of those infrastructures to
Indonesia’s economic growth.

Anwer:

Infrastructure development in Indonesia is an important aspect of economic growth because the

existence of good infrastructure also has a positive effect on economic growth, so that new jobs
are created, as well as reducing poverty levels and increasing per capita income. Investments in
infrastructure tend to be expensive and capital-intensive, but are critical to the economic
development and prosperity of a region. Projects related to infrastructure improvements can be
funded publicly, privately, or through public-private partnerships.
First, the construction of toll roads increases connectivity between regions in Indonesia. Better
and wider payment channels allow goods and services to move more smoothly, which improves
distribution and logistics efficiency. This encourages the growth of economic sectors such as
industry, trade and tourism. In addition, toll roads also increase population mobility, facilitate
access to workplaces, shopping centers and other important places which in turn support
regional economic growth. In addition, the construction of new airports and upgrading of existing
airport facilities has increased domestic and international air connections. With a more modern
and efficient airport, Indonesia will be able to attract more foreign tourists, advance the tourism
and hospitality industry and expand the market for the export industry. In addition, airport
infrastructure improvements support the development of the domestic aviation industry, improve
domestic aviation services and open up new investment opportunities. In addition, the
construction of dams and other water infrastructure projects is financially rewarding in many
ways. First, dams increase the capacity of irrigation water and ensure the continuity of water
supply to the agricultural sector. This has a direct impact on the growth of agricultural production
and food security. In addition, dams promote hydropower production, diversify energy sources
and increase the availability of electricity. This supports industrial growth, commercial activity
and the domestic sector.
In general, Indonesia's economic growth is positively influenced by important infrastructure such
as toll roads, airports and dams. Better connections, increased mobility, greater investment and
increased production contribute to increased national income and human well-being. However,
to maximize the benefits of this infrastructure, it is important to ensure proper maintenance,
effective management, and consideration of the social and environmental impacts of
infrastructure development.
