Position Title: State Cricket Association, Head of Sports Science & Medicine/Academy Physio
No. of openings: One for each State Cricket Association
Reports to: Office bearers of the respective State Cricket Association
Working hours: Full-time with some unsocial hours including evenings, weekends & public holidays
Location: State Cricket Association Academy
Age Limit: 50 years
Purpose of role: In this current age, it is imperative that physical fitness, recovery, injury prevention and
management is given paramount importance for the welfare of players. The Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) is committed to provide a high-performance environment for its athletes
throughout the organization. As a part of this drive, a Head of Sports Science & Medicine will be
appointed at all state cricket associations affiliated with the board. This candidate will be an integral
part of a multidisciplinary team and is expected to deliver highest standards of professional care in a
confidential manner and possess abilities to lead a physiotherapy and strength and conditioning
(S&C) team entrusted with top level performance.
Principal duties & responsibilities:
• Development of strategy/framework for improving standards of science and medicine, clinical and medical
governance, clinical service delivery, medical/welfare research, risk management, specialist advice,
communication
• Lead and deliver the following programmes: Injury prevention/risk reduction, athlete development and
research, player recovery and support during rehabilitation, research and innovation, long term athlete
development, illness and wellness related to international travel/representation
• Responsible for the performance benchmarking and quality management processes for all aspects of sports
science and medicine services based on industry ‘best practice’
• Provide strategic and operational leadership of sports science and medicine services to teams and/or
academies of the state cricket association
• Responsible for the performance management and development of the sports science and medicine team to
create a high performing unit
• Line manages the senior and age group team physios and S&Cs working with the various teams and/or
academies of the state cricket association
• Work with the state cricket association’s coaches and administrative staff to provide strategic performance
planning and management advice and ensure that SSM services are integrated across the game leading to
optimal performance impact in the short, medium, and long term
• Provision of day-to-day injury management and prevention services at the state association’s academy.
Promptly diagnose injuries and devise a management plan for injuries based on the highest quality of current
evidence-based practice
Operating Environment:
• A challenging multidisciplinary team working environment where the candidate will have to prioritise
workload and display effective time management skills to the demands of different players, professionals,
and other stakeholders
• Setting and managing the expectations of players, coaching staff, and administrators regarding the results of
injury management, injury prevention, and performance enhancement programs
• Dealing with players who may be non-compliant or non-motivated regarding treatment and injury prevention
programs

professionals
• Maintaining effective lines of communication with all key stakeholders
• The effective transfer of information and guidelines of treatment to state team physiotherapists to ensure
continuity of care of athletes

Qualifications & Key Competencies:
Essential:
Minimum qualification:
• An undergraduate qualification specializing in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy/Sports & Exercise Medicine/Sports
Rehabilitation/Sports Physiotherapy
Work Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a state senior team physio (Ranji trophy) or
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience working with a high-performance sports team
Desirable:
• A postgraduate qualification specializing in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy/Sports & Exercise Medicine/Sports
Rehabilitation/ Sports Physiotherapy
• Experience of working with a high-performance sports team/cricket team/high-performance athletes/high-performance
cricket players
