INTRODUCTION: THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

The word automotive, which means a self-powered vehicle, is derived from the Greek word
autos which means ‘self’, and the Latin motivus which means ‘of motion’. The word
automotive was given by Elmer Sperry and is credited with its invention. It was first applied
to automobiles in 1898. The automotive sector is basically made of diverse types of
businesses and industries which are engaged in various types of activity like designing,
developing, producing, and marketing a number of automobile vehicles. It is one of the most
profitable and remunerative types of industry in the world. industry. Additionally, companies
in this industry spend most of their earnings on R&D.
One of the primary economic foundations in India is the Automotive Industry. It is a
significant growth engine with strong backward and forward linkages. Several new players
entered the market as a result of economic liberalization and deliberate policy changes during
the previous several years, expanding its capacity and creating a significant amount of jobs.
In the year of 2021 to 2022, the automobile industries produced and launched a total number
of 22.93 million vehicles, which included Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, 3
Wheelers, 2 Wheelers, and Quadricycles. Now India is the world's largest tractor
manufacturer, 2nd largest in bus manufacturing, and 3rd largest heavy truck manufacturer.
In 2023 and beyond, fully independent self-driving vehicles will become more common.
According to research, autonomous vehicles improve fuel efficiency by 10%, increase safety,
decrease downtime, increase the range of last-mile deliveries, decrease driver fatigue and
carelessness accidents, and cut CO2 emissions by 42 million metric tonnes annually. Self-
driving technology has been installed by several trucking companies and tested at locations
across the country.

India has become 3rd largest automotive market and is now expected to overtake the US by
2030, as more than $222 was invested in this sector which lead to a rise in the GDP of India
for 7.1% and 8% in exports.

located in Mumbai and is an Indian multinational
automotive manufacturing corporation. It was
initially named as Mahindra & Mohammed and was
founded in the year 1945 but later on renamed as

M&M, a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, is one of India's largest vehicle manufacturers in
terms of output. Its subsidiary Mahindra Tractor Company is the world's largest producer of

The company ended its joint venture with the a famous company Renault in the year April
2020, but Renault continues to licence and supply critical components like engines and

manufacturer of sport-utility vehicles, trucks, and agricultural tractors, and it operates in both
domestic and international markets. Vehicles, tractors, implements, and industrial engines are

crown jewel, it competes in the international tractor market and the Indian utility vehicle
market. The firm engages in aerospace, aftermarket, agribusiness, automotive, components,
construction equipment, consulting services, defence, energy, farm equipment, finance and
insurance, farm machinery, information technology, industrial equipment, logistics, retail, real
estate, and two-wheeled transportation through its various subsidiaries. All the way from
motorcycles to semitrailers, SUVs to charter buses, the company sells it all. It offers a wide

provision. Consulting services in automotive design, engineering, CAE, and project
management are the company's bread and butter. In addition, it provides concept definitions
for various types of motor vehicles, including bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and trucks. The
company produces a variety of commercial vehicles for both light and heavy use. These

commercial vehicles in India in partnership with Navistar Inc.
The company is divided into the Business Segment and the Secondary Segment. The

ancillary services make up the Farm Equipment Sector. The IT Services include support for

Transactions with clients outside of India constitute the Overseas business division.
Indian customers over the years have had huge faith and trust in this brand due to their
excellent performance and low maintenance costs. Currently, the company has been
producing new cars in the SUV segment as it is considered to be the USP and also each
Mahindra new car model surpasses the expectations that Indian buyers have of the brand.
Now its main focus is shifted to producing electric cars which is nowadays a new trend in the
Indian market, and once again high expectations are made from this company in order to
satisfy the demand of the buyers.
One of the most important marketing strategies of Mahindra vehicles is that their price lies in
the mid-range which is quite affordable by the buyers, which results in a significant market
share and the company enjoys strong brand loyalty among the customers.

MAHINDRA CARS MONTHLY SALES FIGURES:-


In Feb 2023, the total sales figure of Mahindra cars was 30221 units. This included sales of
Bolero Neo (9782), Scorpio Classic (6950), Thar (5004), XUV700 7-Seater (4505), XUV300
(3809), and Marazzo (171).
Mahindra Bolero Neo was the best-selling Mahindra car in India in Feb 2023. Compare

SCOPE OF IMPROVEMENT

There are several areas where the Automobile industry can improve:

sources.

hospitality firm in India to sign both the RE100 (Renewable Energy) and EP100 (Energy
Productivity) pledges. This reflects the company's commitment to environmental management. The
corporation has committed to using only energy derived from renewable sources by the year 2050 and
doubling its energy productivity by the year 2030. It has also agreed to participate in the EP100
cooling challenge, for which it will analyse the effectiveness of existing air conditioning equipment
and create alternatives that minimise energy use.

EMPLOYEE CAPABILITY BUILDING

The capability of employees not only impacts the performance of a company at the present time but

POSH AWARENESS SESSION

They held a mandatory workshop on the prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace with a
subject matter expert with the purpose of redressing complaints, preventing sexual harassment, and
prohibiting it.

HUMAN RIGHTS AWARENESS TRAINING

Education in human rights fosters ideals, ideas, and attitudes that urge all individuals to respect their
own rights as well as the rights of others, not only in the workplace but also in day-to-day life. We
held a Compliance Workshop on Human Rights to raise awareness on current concerns and to educate
participants on how to avoid violating human rights.

SUSTAINABILITY CAPACITY BUILDING

The employees of Mahindra receive a significant amount of investment from the company in order to
increase their knowledge of sustainability-related themes such as reporting and disclosures, waste
management, carbon neutrality, energy, water, and waste efficiency, and green buildings. More than
eighty percent of their staff has received training in environmentally responsible business practises.

DAKSH

Designed specifically for the company's business and collection leaders, who play a crucial part in
the accomplishment of goals. This capability building program's end goal is to improve the
performance of frontline workers.

Divisional Managers (DMs) participate in a Train the Trainer programme that provides them with all
of the knowledge, standard operating procedures, and competency they need in order to teach their
team of Business and Collection Executives (BEs and CEs). Classroom-style training has been
provided by directors of marketing to 87% of area managers and 75% of executives.

SAMARTH

A capability development programme that focuses on instilling and sustaining the first-time-right
work standards to give customer happiness at every touch point. This programme is designed
specifically for our branch accountants and is implemented throughout all of our branches. This
programme has been participated in by 372 staff members who all have a minimum of two years of
experience. On the basis of their knowledge and experience, twenty-five small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs) from all around India have been chosen to build the functional content internal.
FOSTERING INCLUSIVE GROWTH MANAGEMENT APPROACH

The Water Rejuvenation Project that Mahindra Vacations & Resorts is working on would be beneficial
to 3,000 villages.

CONVERTED 3 MUNICIPAL GARDENS

People like the architecture and plants and flowers in the Shivaji Garden, which is near the Gateway
of India. It was completely redone by the Mahindra Group at a cost of Rs. 6 Lakhs. It now has new
lawns, flowers, and paths for people to walk on. A place where bad people used to hang out has been
combined with the garden to stop it from being used again. Every effort has been made to keep the
garden in great shape, and there are set hours for visitors to help with maintenance. The Mahindra
Group spent Rs. 1 Lakh to fix up the Traffic Island Garden, which is across from the Regal Cinema.
The fountain was brought back to its former glory by adding new lamp posts and different plants. The
garden provides visual relief in this crowded and traffic congested circle. The third garden is located \
sat the junction of Madame Cama Road, to the south of Oval Maidan. The group built this brand-new
garden from scratch at a cost of Rs. 1.5 Lakhs.

DISASTER RELIEF

The Mahindra Foundation was set up with a specific goal in mind: to help poor and needy people get
medical care. Patients with cancer, heart problems, and burns have all been helped by the foundation.
It has also been very active during national disasters and calamities, helping to raise money and get
people to help. The foundation also helps professors, other professionals, and athletes by giving them
money to go to workshops and conferences abroad. The Mahindra Group has always done a lot to
help when India has had a big disaster. Whether it was the tsunami or the Gujarat earthquake, the
Mahindra family has always come together to help, either by giving money or by sending vehicles,
materials, or people to help.
MAHINDRA PRIDE SCHOOLS

It has decided to start two schools for SC/ST youth called Mahindra Pride schools. Since the first
Pride school opened, more than 2,000 students have found jobs with starting salaries of Rs. 9000.
