REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The review of the Related Literature and Studies consists of

local and foreign literature either in books, previous school
lessons, websites and other forms of media that helped the
proponents in formulating and analyzing the system that is fitted
for decision support in livestock farming. The review focused on
a number of different literature and studies that are related in
the system. It helped the researchers in gathering ideas which
were the bases on developing an Enhanced decision making for
swine farm.

Related Literature

A. Foreign Studies

The study below provides an analysis of related literature as

well as writings by renowned experts, both of which have a
significant influence on the issue being investigated.
Unpublished materials from other nations and foreign research are
referred to as foreign studies.

Smart Decision-Support System for Pig Farming

Basing on the study of Wang, Li, Zhong, Xu, Huang, Zou,

Chen, Wu, Chen, Leung, Miao (2020) In the modern food production
process, various participants, including farmers, wholesalers,
retailers, and financial institutions, collaborate with the
common objective of gathering information to make informed
decisions that enhance productivity and minimize risks. However,
the collection and analysis of real-time data remain challenging,
especially in developing nations where agriculture serves as the
primary source of income for a significant portion of the
population. This research project introduces a smart decision-
support system designed for pig farming. Specifically, the system
employs rail-based unmanned vehicles to capture images of
pigsties. These images are then stitched together to prevent the
duplication of pig counts, allowing for precise segmentation of
individual pigs using an image segmentation method. By utilizing
segmentation masks, the system can estimate pig weights and
integrate the data into a mobile application that has been
developed. The proposed system empowers the aforementioned
participants and stakeholders by providing them with real-time
data and intelligent analysis reports, which aid in their
decision-making processes.

A computer-based decision support system for knowledge management

in the swine industry
As concluded by the study's authors Trujillo-Díaz, Herrera, and
Díaz-Piraquive (2021), This research paper focuses on addressing
the vulnerability in the swine industry's production cycle that
leads to an imbalance between supply and demand, impacting
profitability. The study presents a computer-based decision
support system for Knowledge Management (KM) to enhance
profitability performance in the swine industry. The system
enables the evaluation of decision alternatives based on KM
capacity and profitability performance dimensions. By designing
four simulation scenarios for a pig company in Colombia, this
tool aids in generating integration strategies for the swine
industry.

Strategic and economic planning on pig farms

In the study by Ezcurra-Ciaurriz and Plà-Aragonés (2017), This
paper introduces a strategic planning tool designed to assess and
analyze the economic performance of farrow-to-finish pig farms,
with a specific focus on providing financial insights to pig
farmers. The tool aims to support decision-making processes
related to investment in new family farms and the evaluation of
contracting production to vertically integrated companies through
integration contracts. By calculating the net present value (NPV)
over a ten-year timeframe under various financial scenarios, the
strategic planning tool evaluates different alternatives. A real-
world case study of a typical farrow-to-finish farm in Spain was
employed to test the model. The results indicate that the project
becomes unprofitable in all scenarios when the sale price falls
below 1.08 €/kg of live-weight. Thus, the findings suggest that
it is advisable for family farmers to consider entering into
integration contracts.

B. Local Studies

Project Investocks: Online Investment System For Poultry And

Swine Raisers With Decision Support System
Informed by the analysis of Legaspi, Manalo, Opeña, Pempiña,
and Solomo (2022), The study aimed to develop a web-based
investment system for the Philippines' pig and poultry
industries, addressing the lack of online technology in the
current investment system. The system aimed to assist investors
in finding profitable farms by using a user-friendly interface
and a decision-making process for pork investments. The National
Federation of Hog Raisers Inc., previously known as Producers
Federation of the Philippines Inc., was involved in the project.
The system included dashboards for administrators and investors,
providing farm performance and investment data. Core data for
system development was gathered through direct observations,
focus groups, and interviews. The system's effectiveness and
client satisfaction were demonstrated on the PPFPI website after
deployment.

Decision support system for richdess poultry and egg farm

Taking into consideration the study of Ching, Calagos, Delfin,
Dignadice, and Macuja (2018) The development of accurate Farm
Management Information Systems is crucial for the agriculture
industry, particularly in managing livestock performance data.
RichDess Poultry and Egg Farm utilized Agile and Scrum frameworks
to create a Decision Support System that assists in making
sustainable and efficient business decisions. The system includes
modules for poultry and egg management, pig management, inventory
tracking, and financial management. It provides recommendations
for chicken breeds, suggests medications based on historical
data, monitors pig weight and breeding status, offers cash flow
overviews, and tracks feed and medicine quantities. The
information is based on the Proceedings of the 2018 8th
International Workshop on Computer Science and Engineering.
Sow Reproductive Analysis for Local Areas and Zones via Automated
Recording Information System
According to Salazar, Mingala, and Torres (2022), A user-
friendly prototype web-based information system (WBIS) was
developed using proprietary software to assist backyard hog
farmers in assessing and analyzing reproductive performance and
disorders on their farms. The system was created through a survey
of farms, database backups, user interfaces, and data encoding
programs. The WBIS was piloted in various towns of Pampanga,
Philippines, and demonstrated compatibility with different
platforms. Known as Sow Reproductive Analysis for Local Areas and
Zones through Automated Recording Information System (SALAZARIS),
the WBIS has the potential to effectively enhance sow
productivity for backyard farmers with future development and
upgrading.

Synthesis
Data from numerous linked studies on domestic and
international livestock production are used to inform decision
support systems (DSS) for pig farms. For the purpose of providing
helpful information and improving farm operations, these systems
make use of data modeling, analysis, and prediction capabilities.
The primary advantages and characteristics of pig farm decision
support systems for raising livestock. By applying these methods,
farmers can maximize pig output, boost productivity, enhance
animal care, and ultimately improve financial results.
