Lesson Idea

Students will be given a selection of books to read and analyze, and be given Spotify for
Podcasters to create their own podcast discussing the text and its main ideas in however
format they wish.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:

“Ask 3, Then Me” will be implemented with questions students might have, so they ask
their peers first, allowing me to be more proactive with teaching, as well as harboring
communication skills between students.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson supports two parts of UDL. It supports engagement by giving students creative
control and freedom to complete the podcast how they wish, and supports action and
expression by the software used having multiple ways for students to format and design their
podcast how they see fit, with different background music and transitions.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

By giving creative freedom and free expression to students to talk about the main ideas of the
book in a casual, but comprehensive way, this encourages students to think deeper about the
text, and practice recall and prediction strategies. I believe this will be fun for students, as
they will be encouraged to share their podcasts with their friends and peers, opening
discussion further about the books.
