Multimedia Audio or Video Lesson Idea Radio Theater Tales
Multimedia Audio or Video Lesson Idea Radio Theater Tales
Description of Software: Spotify for Podcasters is a web-based podcasting software that allows
users to easily record voiceover, add music, and publish to a variety of podcasting distributers.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.
☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,

Lesson idea implementation:
To present this lesson, I will begin by playing students an episode of Six Minutes. I will then tell them
that we will be creating our own audio stories just like it. I will explain that because of the audio
drama format, we will be focusing on using dialogue to tell the stories and develop the characters,
though they can use a narrator to describe the setting. I will split the class into groups of about 4
students each and they will be given time to draft and revise their narratives on paper. After a day or
two of using writing time to write their stories, they will use Spotify for Podcasters to record their
audio drama (using anonymous group names and the class account). The students will be expected
to take the roles of different characters in the recording. They will also add music and publish it to
the class. Once all groups have finished their audio stories, we will wrap up the project by listening
to each others’ stories together.
Managing student learning:
This tool will shift students to active social learners by providing a fairly open-ended project where
they take what they have learned about dialogue and narrative writing and apply it together to
create a shareable story with audio technology. I will manage the technology and keep students on
task by requiring them to draft on paper and get my approval to record. Working in groups will allow
them to help each other navigate technology use and develop their content, reducing the need for
my guidance.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Multiple Means of Representation consists of allowing multiple ways for students to demonstrate
learning, and the process of this lesson and the collaborative nature allows students to use their
strengths and supplement each other’s weaknesses. Students can dictate dialogue to each other
while writing if they struggle to write things down, and they can choose roles in the collaborative
process that best suit them. They also have some autonomy and choice in developing their narrative,
which is a part of Multiple Means of Engagement. This tool supports these things by being versatile
and making it easy to record their voices with just a click of a button.
Reflection:
This activity impacts student learning by giving them a creative way to showcase their learning in
narrative writing and dialogue that provides for collaborative learning and student choice. I look
forward to seeing what kinds of stories students will choose to tell and how creative they are in
producing their stories as an audio drama.
