1. Definitions of Global Englishes

Global English is a simplified version of the english language, it is a set of rules for
writing blobally.
It is also known as international English or world English.

The term 'others' is culturally loaded and ironic, as English is already numerically the language
of these 'others'. As the century progresses, the centre of gravity of the language is likely to shift
in the direction of the 'others', with increasing claims from English speakers outside the Inner
Circle for English language rights. In Widdowson's words, there is likely to be a paradigm shift
from language distribution to language spread.

The new paradigm in which English spreads and adapts

according to the linguistic and cultural preferences of its users in the outer and expanding circles
has changed traditional assumptions about the language.

If English is genuinely become the language of “others” – that it spreads and becomes a global
lingua franca for the benefit of all, rather than distribute to facilitate communication with the
natives.
