County First Team News.
The County 1st team gathered at Bedford and County for a bit of team bonding , lunch and a match vs the mens scratch team
ahead of next week’s county match days in Norfolk. Holly Reddick, ex tour pro and former Bedfordshire team player came
along with her daughter Rose (next generation Bedfordshire) for Q&A and nails! Many thanks to her for a fabulous insight
into the game, strategy , tactics and mindset. We also gave out the new county kit and as it was Sue’s birthday we had a cake
courtesy of Nicky Westgate and enjoyed a fabulous buffet by James Bolton , club caterer. The match was preceded by a
putting challenge set by Caitlin which Annabel, Sue and Jolie also took part in. 3 USA college scholars went off first in the
form of Fin Cummings, Caitlin Thomas and Jolie Wong, all hitting the ball prodigious distances. Fin came out ahead in both
matches but the girls pushed him hard! Next up a fourball with Sue Caley and Annabel individually taking on Elliot Smith
and Ross Hamilton. I believe the matches all went to the last green. My personal thanks to the men for giving the team some
tough opposition ahead of the county matches next week. Scratch golfers on their home course were always going to be a
challenge and just to add a bit of a test I made our team go off the yellow tees. The team is ready for Wensum Valley. Sue
helped finish the day by sharing the rest of the cake with the men who thoroughly enjoyed joining in the birthday celebration.

Lady Captain Ruth Bower was the instigator of this CHAMPIONSHIP 24th & 25th JUNE
competition and even though she now lives in 2023
Cornwall, she kindly sends up a contribution to treat Many thanks to all the ladies who entered our
all of the ladies - which is so very generous Championship weekend on what turned out to be one of
the hottest so far this year. The course was in a great
condition and a close battle for the Gross Championship
between 2 hot favourites - Anne Beckett & June
Russell. Anne took a 2 shot lead on Saturday - but June
came fighting back on Sunday with some red hot putting
- enabling her to just pip Anne at the post to become the
2023 Gross Champion. The Nett was also a close finish
- Anne leading the way with this on Saturday,
unfortunately being pipped at the post on Sunday by Sue
Long. Nearest the pin on Saturday was Elva. Nearest
the pin in 2 on Sunday was Morag. The longest Drive
on both days (well and just being plain greedy!!) was
June. Many thanks to Zak, Lee, Victoria & Imogen &
all of the team for treating the ladies to a memorable
weekend, from the car parking, cards ready, cold drinks
on & off the course - Tee Announcements (it was like
Augusta), and everyone who came up to support our
championship. It did make us all feel very special
on a fantastic weekend.
