Quantitative data were processed using descriptive statistics to describe the learners'
responses and to determine general trends collected from the quantitative data collection
instruments. In this sense, this analysis included measures of central tendency including mean
and frequency represented through tables and bar graphs. Therefore, the interpretation of the
pretest and posttest data was performed using frequency tables that presented the mean score that
the students obtained in each listening component. Likewise, the information obtained from the
closed-ended questions of the mixed-type questionnaire was also discriminated by descriptive
statistics and illustrated with a frequency table adapted to the Likert scale showing the students'
perceptions of using audiovisual aids in the development of their listening skills, motivation,
active participation, engagement, and the relevance of the audiovisual aids used.
On the other hand, the qualitative data were examined using thematic analysis. Thereby,
the researcher found similar patterns of student responses in the open-ended questions of the
questionnaire and the observational information from the field notes. Consequently, the
researcher was able to use the information to corroborate, compare and contrast the numerical
data presented.
