YEAR 3 SEM 1
INSTITUTION DESIGN
Primary School Learning environments are primary to initiate the
idea of enquiry. The design of a school building fundamental-
ly addresses the environment of learning. The architecture of
the school thus becomes crucial to exemplify the physical man-
ifestation of the central theme behind human nature of inquest.
Exploration of various ways the ground and building come togeth-
er is primary to the initiation of the design process. Most promising
land-forms and context, which have the potential to become far
richer expressions with built-form, are regrettably left out as sec-
tional explorations sometimes become purely presentational.

WORKING DRAWING
This studio primarily aims at bridging the gap between
academics and construction practices, and preparing
students to confidently take on challenges in an informed
manner when it comes to translating their ideas into reality.
One of the initial studio exercises will focus on – learning
through detailed observation of building services in familiar
existing surroundings.Drawings are powerful tools for effective
communication with constructors and users, and this aspect
will be highlighted through the various exercises. Design
exercise this semester is a live, humane social project in rural
contexts. The scale will be limited in order to get into greater
depth of detailing & specifications, incorporating all services.

EXPERIENCING SPACE
THE LEISURE HUB
YEAR 1 SEM 2
FOUNDATION YEAR
People use their free time in a variety of different ways; engaging in
outdoor activities, entertainment like watching movies or television,
or having time to themselves. Another activity people enjoy doing is
socializing with family and friends. For this reason, space is designed were
people come to have their leisure or free time. By this, the interaction
between the people will increase which has his own advantages.
The basic intent behind the design aims to allow the community
to get involved and conceive a bond with a new public building.
The principal was to break a relatively larger space into individual
units, each having it’s own characteristic profile and position. The
treatment of these gives a sense of privacy to each unit despite
being one part of a whole. Loose arrangement of solids allows light
and wind to penetrate and circulate through the entire space.

SOCIAL HOUSING
HOUSING DESIGN
YEAR 2 SEM 2
DESIGN ACCORDING TO INCOME GROUP
The studio brief was thus focused on understanding, experiencing,
analyzing, and interpreting the wisdom of the Vernacular in con-
temporary times, and translating its ethos and principles in creating
high density contemporary urban neighborhoods which are hu-
mane in scale, interactive, plural for diverse value’s coexistence
and sustainable for the given context of climate and construction.
House with a heart makes a home, homes make neighborhoods,
neighborhoods make communities, communities make societies,
and societies shape our living environments. We shape our world
and the world around shapes us. Vernacular architecture and
self-made settlements such as Pols, slums and urban villages, hav-
ing been evolved locally of the place, by the place, for the place,
and refined over time, while being true to the culture, context and
climate, have stood the test of time for their socio cultural appro-
priateness, timeless aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.

The Dawoodi Bohras are a very close-knit community, and

thus, the entire community settled down in one part of the
town between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When I
first heard of Sidhpur, I only learned of its importance of being
Matru Gaya– a pious place where Hindus conduct the last
rites and rituals for their mothers who have departed. A quaint
town located on the left bank of the river Saraswati, it is also a
sacred place for devotees of Lord Shiva, as it bears a magnif-

ROAD MAP INCOME ANALYSIS OLD VS NEW ANALYSIS HEIGHT ANALYSIS
While the overall style of the house is very unorthodox and
extraordinary, certain elements have been derived from the
local architecture. High plinths or otlas, provides a transition
base to the entrance of the house, a feature that has long
been used in dwellings not only in Gujarat but all over India.
Otlas are used as social spaces, where families of Dawoodi
Bohra would get together after dusk- a key aspect of a close-
knit community.

These houses are narrow but deep, encompassing a small

courtyard in the center- another element that can be found
in most ‘Havelis’ which are native to a hot and dry climatic
region. Keeping up with traditional structures, each house
shares walls with the next and is constructed mainly with
