PERIOD DURATION OF PROGRAMME AND COMMENTS

1. Six months training at the Academy (theory).

Purpose, Goal and Prerequisites of New Basic
Training Learning Programme

• Purpose:
– To build crime prevention capacity in the SA Police Service in line with
Constitutional requirements.
• Goal:
– To capacitate new recruits with the necessary basic policing knowledge, skills and
attitude in line with the Constitutional mandate.
• Selection and Recruitment Process:
– Psychometric assessment;
– Interviews;
– Fitness; and
– Medical assessment.
• Generic Requirements:
– RSA Citizen;
– No criminal record;
– Between ages of 18-30 years;
– Matric or Equivalent Certificate; and
– In possession of a Drivers licence (08/EB).

- Booking on/off duty, General CSC duties, Custody management, Exhibits, Interviewing, statement
writing and dockets, Introduction to main frame systems (CAS/ ICDMS, NETVAS), Observation,
Search & Seizure
• All activities at station level (attending to complaints outside police station, crime
scenes, crime prevention, etc.), including:
– Completion of vehicle log sheet,132(b), and inspection thereof;
– Attending to and handling of crime scenes / accident scenes;

Academy by internal M&E Section on the learning programme.
