FOURTH QUARTER
I. Objectives:
 Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of compound sentence and coordinating
conjunctions
 Combine two independent clauses with appropriate coordinating conjunctions to
form a compound sentence
 Use compound sentences to show a problem-solution relationship of ideas

II. Subject Matter:


Topic: Compound Sentence
Reference; Textbook- Joy in Learning English 5, pp. 290
Materials: pictures, flashcards, chart, worksheet, video presentation
Skills: creating, writing, reading, listening, speaking, demonstrating
Values: Show tactfulness when communicating with others

III. Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Opening Prayer (AVP)
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review
Have a review about the previous lesson “Simple Sentences” through a game

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Let the pupils look and study the pictures displayed on the board. Call pupils to
choose the correct sentence that is related to each picture being shown. The pupils
will have to choose their answer from the given choices which are also posted on
the board.

Ben cried because he has a toothache. He went to the dentist for a check-up.

The classroom is dirty. The pupils decided to clean the room after their class.

John needed money. He went to the bank.

 The teacher will examine and check if the answers of the pupils were correct.
 Let the pupils read each sentence correctly.

2. Presentation and Discussion

 The teacher will present and discuss the lesson about the concepts of Compound
Sentences using video clip presentation.
 Remind the pupils to listen attentively and take note of the important concepts/
details about the lesson being discussed.
 Go back to the previous activity. Let the pupils combine the two simple sentences to
form compound sentences showing problem-solution relationships

What Have you learned in our today’s lesson?
 A compound sentence is made up of two or more independent clauses usually
joined by conjunctions or coordinating words such as, for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and
so.
 Compound sentences with the appropriate transition words or phrases can be used
to show a problem-solution relationship.

IV. Evaluation:
Form a compound sentence from the simple sentences given. Use or, and but to combine
each pair of sentences.
1. School can be fun.
It is exciting.
2. The Science experiments need time and patience.
They are interesting to perform.
3. Our Music teachers teach Filipino songs.
Sometimes we learn foreign songs.
4. In Physical Education we can learn many kinds of dances.
We are also taught different ball games.
5. Mathematics seems challenging.
With more attention we can master problem-solving.

V. Assignment:
Write five (5) compound sentences expressing problem-solution relationships.
