RECOMMENDATION
There are many ways to treat wastewater which contains different kinds of impurities such as human
waste, oils, soaps and chemicals. For examples, Biological treatment, Evaporation, and Membrane
which has its own advantages however this alternatives not a proper solution in this case because the
main problem of this methods is that it require a lot of money for small-sized, medium-sized companies
and even for a government. This method may not be the best solution for our country. So, the proposed
method in this case is by using chemical treatment specifically Chlorine. There are few steps that are
included in this method which is coagulation and filtration.
In this coagulation method there are many types of inorganic chemical being used, for example,
aluminum sulfate, sodium aluminate, ferric sulfate and ferric chloride. Chemicals that being mentioned
in above are the most common types of chemicals that being used by big industries however further
research was done and there are more better chemicals to be used for coagulation which is Iron (II)
sulphate because this chemical in eliminating biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids
(SS), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) are extremely effective. The rate of elimination of BOD, SS
and COD are 96%, 97% and 98% so this show that it can cut time and cost because it does not require
to many processes because it already efficient. Furthermore, Iron (II) sulphate is an endothermic and
non-spontaneous chemical. The concentration of BOD, SS and COD that released after post-treatment
is lower than assigned stringent industrial effluent discharge limits of Department of Environment
(DOE), Malaysia. Thus Iron (II) sulphate can be used as potential coagulant to remove colloidal and
suspended particles in watercourse.
For filtration, this method more commonly being used in residential area which people buy water filters
to completely make sure that the water is safe to drink. Some common water filters that are being sold
are Cuckoo VIVID, Coway NEO PLUS and more. This water filter must pass the going water quality
meets drinking water standards of the Ministry of Health before it can be sold in public, and this can
avoid people from being scammed. Water filter is recommended in households specifically filtering
water before it goes inside tank to avoid bacteria growth which can cause problems such as skin
irritation and more. Besides that, water purifiers are more commonly used in industries because they
can easily remove chloride, nitrate, arsenic and mercury which are harder for water filtration to remove.
As for adsorption, the most suitable materials to be used in wastewater treatment is pressmud. Pressmud
is produced by waste from the sugarcane industry, and it receives too little attention from other people
as its beneficial effect on soil fertility. Pressmud is an organic waste biodegradable and rich in micro
macronutrients which improve soil fertility. This material should be used in agriculture industries
because it is efficient on chemical fertilizers and pesticides are high and it can adsorb high metal ion
and toxic metal sorption. Although it has many advantages but it receives little attention so the
government needs to make pressmud more popular by introducing small-sized, medium-sized and big-
sized companies so that it can be used more.
