CHAPTER VI

RAINFALL PATTERNS IN SELECTED AREAS OF BOHOL

In this chapter the researcher used the methods of tabulation and graph to determine the rainfall patterns and comparisons of each selected

site of Bohol. Rainfall patterns in selected areas of Bohol was based by comparing each site in a span of seven years from the year 1978 to 1984.

There were changes and corrections indicated in this chapter compared to the book used for data gathering. Furthermore, each tabulations and

graphs will show statistical results for the rainfall records among the nine sites.

The following are the nine selected sites of Bohol:

> Bilar > Gabi > Carmen-Central > Garcia Hernandez

> Guindulman > Loon > Las Salinas > Talibon

> Tubigon

6.1 Data Tabulation and Graph

In this part of analysis, the researcher compared the common years of the nine sites. Given the data below, the user can determine the

starting year and ending year for the period.

This table showed the span of years needs to be compared. This chapter was focusing more on the common years among the nine sites

which means that there were only seven span of years that have compared. The remaining years which were not included into the comparison can

also be determined but with in no common years. The followed table showed the comparison of sums, means extremes, wet days, dry days and

other statistical data for the period of 1978 to 1984 among the nine sites of Bohol.

Sample record for daily mean: 5.69 ( which is the Bilar daily mean for the period )

Table 6.1.2 determined the comparison of the total sums, means, extremes, wet and dry days among the nine sites. These comparison

showed that the site that contained the highest amount of sum for the period and has a complete number of records for the period was the Bilar

station. The four sites without corrections in sum were: Bilar, Carmen-Central, Las Salinas, and Guindulman while the other five sites that has

corrections in total sum were: Talibon, Tubigon, Loon, Garcia-Hernandez and Gabi.

In this figure, it showed the statistical data : sums, means, extremes, wet and dry days comparing the graph of the each site for the period.

As it was shown, the lowest site that contained the smallest amount of monthly mean and annual mean for the period was the Loon. Since, this site

was containing a small amount of rainfall in each record, this site also contained the smallest amount of total rainfall for the period.

The figure showed that there were only five stations of Bohol which were having corrections for days that were not having a complete

number of days for the period. The complete days for a year is 365 days but these five site has less than 365 days. The highest correction of sum

among the five sites was the Tubigon.

Table 6.1.5 showed the daily mean and total number of days with records in each year from 1978 to 1984. The daily mean was determined

because it was used for computing the corrected for days without records that was shown in Table 6.1.3. The amount of sum marked with asterisk

was the corrected for days without records. The purpose of the two columns: Total days w/ records and Daily mean, was for determining the

marked sum. The following formulas and sample solution were discussed below.

Used in computations:

1. In getting the daily mean:

Total amount of rainfall for the period / Total number of records for the period

2. In getting the corrected for days without records:

( Number of years for the period x 365 ) x daily mean

Sample computation:

Gabi Station:

Year: 1978 Total days with records: 122 Daily mean: 7.92

Solution:

365 x 7.92 = 2890.8 → corrected for days without records

The result showed that only 365 days will be multiplied to the daily mean, since, there was only one year of comparing the data above

( Table 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 ).

Total annual rainfall records for the nine sites of Bohol with common years (1978 – 1984)

In this part of the results, comparing the annual rainfall was determined. The following graphs showed the highest and lowest rainfall total

among the selected sites of Bohol. There were seven years with the corresponding graphs which also shows patterns of total annual rainfall

amount. These graphs was based in Table 6.1.3 Total annual sum comparison for the year 1978 to 1984.

which means that if you sum up all the annual amount from Figure 6.1.6 up to 6.1.12 for each site, the result will be amount of total annual sum

This table shows monthly mean among the nine sites of Bohol from 1978 to 1984. In 1978, the stations that contains the highest amount of

monthly mean was Gabi station. There were also some sites that contains no data which was also mean that in a period (year) these sites has the

biggest number of corrected for days without records. The following stations that contains no data in the year 1978 were: Talibon, and Tubigon. In

1979, only Garcia-Hernandez while in 1980 to 1981 was Tubigon. In 1982 were Talibon and Tubigon and in 1983 was Talibon.

The table above showed the comparison of the total wet days and dry days among the nine sites of Bohol from year 1978 to 1984. It was

stated in the table that there were four types of sites that has a complete number of wet days and dry days for the period. On the contrary, there

were five different sites that also has an incomplete number of wet and dry days. In this case, the amount of wet and dry days for each year will be

affected in the way that either has a smaller amount or no data. The wet and dry days for the period (1978-1984) was shown and stated in Table

6.1.2.

 In this year, the site that has the highest number of wet days was the Bilar station while for highest dry days was the Las Salinas station. It

is mean that in this year the Las Salinas was containing a lowest amount of rainfall while highest sunny days.

Conclusions:

In this part of the chapter, the researcher rated the result of the nine selected textfiles of Bohol: Bilar, Gabi, Carmen-Central, Garcia

Hernandez, Guindulman, Loon, Las Salinas, Talibon and Tubigon. The result of the comparisons of the total sum of the compared year was stated

in the table below:

The table above describe the ranking of the total annual of rainfall from year 1978 to 1984. In overall, the site that contained the

highest total amount of rainfall for the past seven years was the station of Bilar which also has the complete number of records for the period.

The table below showed the ranking of the corrected sites for the period. The corrected sites had corrected for days without records.

In this case, it was opposite from the table above ( Table 6.1.6) since Table 6.1.6 shows the total sum for the period while the table below shows

the the corrections for the sum for the period.
