LESSON 2:Developing the whole Person


Five areas of Personal Development
1.Physiological development:
 Refers to physical body changes
 Senses
 Skill Movement
2.Emotional development:
 Something to do with the feelings that you experience
3.Social development:
 To relate with others
 To connect
 Sense of belongingness
4.Cognitive development:
 Person’s intellectual abilities
 Thoughts,attitudes,beliefs and values
5.Spritual development:
 Discovering one self
 Ego,soul,spirit
 Inner guide
 Discovering of the meaning of life

PHYSICAL/PHYSIOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
Physical health is defined as the condition of your body.
 Lifestyle;diet,behavior(eating unhealthy food).
 Human biology:a person’s genetics and physiology may make it easier or harder to achieve
good physical health.
 Environment:Surroundings and exposure
 Healthcare service:help prevent illness,detect and treat illness.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

How people develop social and emotional skills across the lifespan with particular
attention to childhood and adolescence.

Why is social development important?

Healthy social development allows us to form positive relationships with


family,friends,teachers,and other people.

Healthy social development can help you:


 Develop Communication Skills: ability to interact with others,practice communication skills.
 Build Self-Esteem:A good circle of friends reinforces a person’s comfort level with her
individuality.
 Strengthen Learning Skills:Having a hard time getting along with others more likely to
experience later academic difficulties.
 Resolve conflicts:Stronger self-esteem and better language skills can ultimately lead to a
better ability to resolve differences with peers.
 Establish a positive attitude:leads to better relationship with otjers and higher levels of self-
confidence.

MENTAL/COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
How people think,explore, and figure things out.Brain development is part of cognitive
development.
SPRITUAL/MORAL DEVELOPMENT
Discovering oneself beyond the ego known as the soul.
CHANGES IN EACH DEVELOPMENT PERIOD
Early Adolescence:
 10-14 years old
 Beginning of puberty stage
 Physical growth and changes are vividly significant
 No concrete plans for the future
 Males begin to experience enlargements of their testicles while females do have breast
development

Middle adolescence:

 15-17 years old


 Puberty stage is almost complete
 It is a period of risk taking behaviors
 This is the peek of peer pressure
 Wants to be involved in a group and seeks more independence

Late Adolescence:

 18-24 years old


 Consider mental or cognitive growth
 Start to value family relationship
 Becomes emotionally stable
 Faith in god is stronger.
EMERGING ADULTHOOD
During this stage,adolescent attempt to determine who they are in the present while also
imagining possible futures for themselves.
