Senior high school or SHS refers to the last two years of the K to 12 programs that have been

implemented by the Department of Education here in the Philippines since 2012 – namely, grades 11

and 12. Students are now required to choose their preferred senior high strands upon their entrance

and to begin studying the subjects that are going to introduce them to the career path that they want to

take. Each student in Senior High School can choose among three tracks: Academic; Technical-

Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts. The Academic track includes three strands: Accountancy,

Business and Management (ABM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The Rizal Technological University is offering four strands which

are  Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) The ABM strand in its most fundamental sense

refers to the accountancy, business, and management academic programs that concentrate on the

foundational concepts in corporate operations, financial management, business management, as well as

each and every factor that revolves around those central fields. If you are in the ABM senior high strand,

here are some of the courses that you can end up taking in college: Accountancy, Management

Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Human

Resource Development Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism. Humanities and Social

Sciences (HUMSS) The HUMSS  strand is one of the academic tracks of senior high school in the

Philippines. This strand focuses on oral communication, media, and information, and enhance your

reading and writing skills. There is a lot of research and presentation involved in this strand too. If you

are in the HUMSS senior high strand, here are some of the courses that you can end up taking in college:
Communication Arts, History, Philosophy or Literature, Education, Journalism or Creative Writing, Social

Studies, and Political Science. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) The STEM

strand provides preparation for students in using science, math, engineering, and technology to solve

real-life problems and advance national development. If you are in the STEM senior high strand, here

are some of the courses that you can end up taking in college: Engineering, Information Technology,

Computer Science, Architecture, Pure Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Teacher Education Major in

Sciences, Mathematics, Medical Sciences (Nursing, Medical Allied Programs), Mathematics (BS-

Mathematics). Information and Communication Technology (ICT), The Information Communication and

Technology or ICT Strand is one of the strands offered under Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) Track

of K-12 curriculum. ICT strand subjects seek to teach students concepts and skills in information

technology. If you are in the ICT senior high strand, here are some of the courses that you can end up

taking in college: Bachelor of Computer Science (Bioinformatics), Bachelor of Computer Science

(Computational Science), Bachelor of Computer Science (Computer Network and Security), Bachelor of

Computer Science (Cyber Security), Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Engineering), and more.
